    Hey guys,

I have looked around the interweb and have tried various solutions but I simply cannot render from CS6. It keeps failing on the same frame (23:10), although there is nothing at this frame that doesn’t appear throughout the project and rendered previous to the faulty frame.

My project is a simple 30second animation, I have used no footage just PNG’s imported from PS. I have used Optical Flares but have pre-rendered those to ease the strain. I have used twitch plugin for some simple text slide effects. The animation is really simple and something that I did all the time in CS5 without a problem.

I have systematically gone through the project and removed my blur adjustment layer and other small effects to see if they are causing the problems. Even when they are disabled it stills fails on frame 23:10

I am working on a Macbook Pro 4gig RAM,
I have installed the AE 11.01 update.
I have tried the ‘Secret’ menu workaround to no joy. (Disable Layer Cache, Purge every 1 frame)
Maximum Disk Cache is set to my external HDD at 40gig.
    RAm for other apps- 1.5gig
    RAM for AE- 2.5gigs

    Project details:
    Reso- 1080p
All images used are less than 150k.
    Frame rate: 29.7
No footage used in project, just .PNG images.

Here is the log report- (Please note that for speed I have started the render just before culprit frame)

I am really starting to get worried now and I may have to re-do everything in CS5.

If anybody knows any way to help me out I would much appreciate it as my back is against the wall right now as the deadline is fast approaching.

    Thank you in advance

Since you are on a deadline, I’ll skip trying to figuring out the “why” it’s happening and move to a solution you could try.

Create a folder, and render the project to a TIF sequence. If it fails at a certain point, you will have a working animation to that point and all you will have to do is change your render area to where it failed and start from there.

Once you have all 900 frames rendered you can bring import them as a sequence and render to the codec/file(with audio) that is your deliverable.

are you seeing an error message? the log doesn’t indicate an error.

if you are not seeing an error message, make suer that the comp’s work area is set for the full duration of the comp, and that the render settings are also set to render the full duration of the comp.

also, though this is probably not part of the problem, i would not render to h.264 from after effects. i would render to an uncompressed or lossless compression, then compress that file with a compression utility that can do a multi-pass encode to h.264 (like adobe media encoder), your image quality will be better and the file size is often smaller.

Ah thank you guys you have helped no end. My render is finally working. Relief!

@Kevin. I think I will render to a quicktime from now on just like you suggested.

    Thank you again 🙂

Ii know, its too late for you, but i had the same issue. I think it is cause you used the twitch plugin. I rendered my project without this plugin and voila, it has worked. Maybe the plugin works not right with cs6?!

I had same problem with Twich.
They have made an update you can download from Video Copilot, and now it works as before!

I still have a lot of failed renders after switching to Cs6 even without Twitch, but maybe its the H.264 compression that does it?

The last update I see to Twitch on VCP’s website is from 2010 – do you have a link to this newer update?

I think Twitch is doing it to me in CS6 as well. The render kept failing around the twitch effect in my project. Not at any specific frame, sometimes getting all the way through.

Just finished it in a TIF sequence.

IN your render queue, change your output module to TIFF Sequence with Alpha (you can setup a custom TIFF sequence if you want, but this will work).

This will export individual loss less TIFF frames to your specified directory.

Import the TIFF files back into the project and make sure you select all of them and make sure TIF sequence is selected. This will create a sequence in your project folder.

Right (ctrl) click the new sequence and select interpret footage and make sure your FPS is set to your initial frame rate. Create a new comp by dragging that sequence to the ‘make new comp’ button and export it like you would any other sequence.

Since the frames are already rendered, it doesn’t have to compute the effects while it renders.

    Should work.
