the inconsistencies with audio make me think it may be time to reboot…. but what source is your audio? is it an mp3 or part of a compressed media file? ae really doesn’t like compressed audio.
it doesn’t like compressed video if it uses intraframe compression, either, like mpeg and many others. that could be part of your ram preview delay. also temporal effects like echo and frame blending can lead to delays, since ae has to load several frames to generate a one frame.

try choosing edit>purge>all… sometimes ae just seems to get bogged down after a while, and manually purging the ram can do the trick.

yep, there are a lot of tools to convert the p2 (mxf) files, but i don’t know of any that convert the dvcprohd (100) codec to another wihtout first having the dvcprohd codec to read the files. i’m not sure that the codec pack has the dvcprohd codec, it does have the panasonic dv codec, but i don’t know how universal that is (if it will work on dvcprohd too).
you may need to get those files from fcp exported in another codec, lossless would be great, but a lossy codec like photojpeg should work pretty well too.

the ‘value[0]’ part just tells ae to use the current value of ‘x’, the horizontal component of an [x,y] coordinate system. ‘value[1]’ would be the ‘y’ component (fyi). this separtes the x position of the ‘page’ layer from the postion of the ‘slider’, allowing it to be completely independent from slider
the ‘y’ returns the value of y from the equation that linked the movement to the y movement of the ‘slider’.
so what you get is a layer who’s vertical position is determined by another layer, but can be positioned freely horizontally.

make sure your footage is interpreted correctly in ae… select the footage in the project window, then choose file>interpret footgae>main. make sure it has the correct framerate and particularly the correct separate field order if the footage is interlaced.
if those settings are correct, then you should be able to drop the footage into a 23.98 comp, and it should work pretty well. you may try enabling frame blending to try to smooth the motion out a bit too.
if you want to use timewarp, you can download a simplifed version of framerate converter at . the steps are slightly different: leave the footage at the original framerate, put into a comp with the new framerate, apply the preset. you don’t need to change any values or enter framerates, it gets those from the footage and thecomp settings automaticly. that being said, i don’t think you’ll see a big difference using timewarp or the method described above.

i think you’re going to want to key first… if you are making changes to the color of the footage, first, you will be changing the color of the chroma wall, and that will make keying more difficult.
there are others that have more experience moving fcp projects to ae… but i think i would want to edit the piece first (at least a rough edit) and try to get a reference movie into ae, to avoid having to render to hdv again.
if you can render to lossless animation out of fcp (without compression keyframes), ae will be much happier working with non-interframe compressed codecs (hdv uses interframe compression). but that comes down to disk space, remember that you’ll want to render back to lossless out of ae.

i assume you are using an mp3…? use a wav or aiff. ae doesn’t work well with mp3s (or most other compressed audio files).
