Don’t know if you sorted this out on your own or not – seeing as how your original post is now almost a month old. But I’d go with ATV. (atv.net) We’ve used their services and gear many times before and they are a great company.
Hope this helps out…if not too late?

Jeremy,
Thanks so much for the post. This software codec is exactly what I needed. Not only will it let me do what the transcoder could not, and import M100 files into AE. But now I can also write back M100 files as well. Perfect!

Thanks for the input. That’s sorta what I ended up doing. I didn’t use QTPro – I just exported an ‘Animation’ out of M100 & treated that. It was the only way to get it done. Thanks….

“…A couple of things: is this the latest M100 transcoder? Just a thought….
I’d assume so. I downloaded it from the M100 website only yesterday. It’s V8 – I think it’s the most current.
“…if you’re trying to render out M100-compatible files…”
You’re right. Best I can tell, the “transcoder” is a one-way street, and thus not a true transcoder. It does not allow you to render OUT to the M100 codec. This feature is enabled by the M100 hardware. The transcoder only lets you view/import footage that was originally digitized with the M100.
Whether or not the transcoder allows one to render to M100 codec is a moot point right now. I’m concerned with import not export. So my QT player will play a “transcoded” M100 clip on my laptop – no problem. However, the issue is once I’ve dropped said media into an AE project…wait…and….crash….
Just wanted to know if there were documented incompatibilites with transcoded M100 footage (via the V8 transcoder) and AE 7.
Thanks…

That’s encouraging. Thanks for the additional input. I figured it would work – I just wanted to hear some others validate it.

Thanks so much for the input. However, I think the switch is the weak link in the chain. At home, I personally have an “internet router” whereby there’s a WAN port that the modem plugs into and then 4 LAN ports that the individual machines connect to. I don’t think though, that the switch in question has this ability. Maybe? But if a PCI NIC card would work then that’s only a $10 investment.
Furthermore at the facility in question, this Mac is going to be connected to at least one PC. If possible I’d like to keep the PC(s) off the web anyway and let the Mac be the front line, but let all machines talk to one another.

Ampede has a $99 plug-in called “PDF Plugin” that allows for continuous rasterization inside of FCP.
“…There was a time when continuous rasterization was only available in high-priced compositors like Adobe After Effects. Now, Final Cut Pro editors can take full advantage of continuous rasterization without leaving Final Cut Pro by using Ampede’s inexpensive PDF plugin.
Ampede PDF is a fully-integrated Final Cut Pro plugin that renders vector content from Adobe Illustrator(1) and PDF files frame by frame, so the image is always sharp regardless of scale, movement, or rotation. Vector content can be seamlessly mixed with QuickTime content, and the geometrics are fully keyframeable using the standard Final Cut Pro interface you already know how to use….”
Hope that helps.

Thanks so much. I found the alt + scroll thing on the web just after I posted my original question: just like normal. I’ll look around forever and then as soon as I break down & post a question, I find the answer in a minute or 2 after….oh well…
Thanks again !!

You’re right…photoshop is very limited in this respect. I use stitcher myself for panoramic image stitching. But like I said before you have to capture it in the lens. If you’re not rotating around the nodal point (or very very close to it) then there’s only so much, that even stitcher can accomplish. but it is a dedicated app solely for this purpose and is far superior to photoshop’s “photomerge” ability.
