  • Known Bug? – Media 100 Footage Crashes AE7

Posted by Kevin Brock on October 10, 2006 at 3:00 am

I just installed the Media100 Transcoder plugin on my 12″ Powerbook. Media exported from Media100 will play fine in QT Player. But once inside of AE – the app quickly crashes. Is this a known bug? Thanks for any input.

“…A couple of things: is this the latest M100 transcoder? Just a thought….

I’d assume so. I downloaded it from the M100 website only yesterday. It’s V8 – I think it’s the most current.

    “…if you’re trying to render out M100-compatible files…”

You’re right. Best I can tell, the “transcoder” is a one-way street, and thus not a true transcoder. It does not allow you to render OUT to the M100 codec. This feature is enabled by the M100 hardware. The transcoder only lets you view/import footage that was originally digitized with the M100.

Whether or not the transcoder allows one to render to M100 codec is a moot point right now. I’m concerned with import not export. So my QT player will play a “transcoded” M100 clip on my laptop – no problem. However, the issue is once I’ve dropped said media into an AE project…wait…and….crash….

Just wanted to know if there were documented incompatibilites with transcoded M100 footage (via the V8 transcoder) and AE 7.

    Thanks…

use QTPro to save out an uncompressed mov file
    use that instead

Thanks for the input. That’s sorta what I ended up doing. I didn’t use QTPro – I just exported an ‘Animation’ out of M100 & treated that. It was the only way to get it done. Thanks….

I don’t think you want the transcoder, you want the software codec:

    Jeremy,
Thanks so much for the post. This software codec is exactly what I needed. Not only will it let me do what the transcoder could not, and import M100 files into AE. But now I can also write back M100 files as well. Perfect!
