Are you suggesting that the bits captured by FireWire are different than USB? Or might it be metadata that is not getting transfered?
As this device has FireWire, too, I’ll see what happens on a 1394 capture.

I am capturing VHS footage as AVI in NTSC mode, It creates very large files: 1 GB = 3 minutes.

As I mentioned I can playback the captured track with Windows Media Player and it looks great.

Do you think there may be a missing codec on my Vegas install?

My little Sony Digital8 280 will shoot in 16×9. I think you can buy one these days for about $230.
It uses tape and is very reliable. I bought a wide lens on Amazon for about $40.

The only item that I wish it had is AV In so I could hook up a head Cam to it.
True, it is a long way from the features of a ProSumer cam, but it is fine for me right now.

I do like the looks of new Sony HS EX but at $6K it is out of my reach for now.

    NOT!

Another user has told me to just clink on the tab again. I have not tried yet.

Now, I knew it would be simple. But, not intuitive.
    Thanks.

XP 64 will lets you install 4GB by default. I think there are some tweaks to jump it up to 8GB. MoBo must have support for it, too.
Vista takes the wraps off the max. It becomes how much money do you have.
    I’m running 4GB. What a treat.
However, you need to set your preferences in Vegas as to how much to allocate for rendering.

    Hi Larry,

I just bought one from NewEgg.com. It is a WesternDigital. SATA 7200rpm /w 3MB cache. Works great!

    NewEgg has a sale on a Seagate 750GB for a whopping $140.

You almost can’t figure out the cost per megabyte.
BTW: When I got in this business in 1980 I bought a customer a 300 MB (mega) for a delivered price of $10,800. It was the size of a washing machine and took 3 of us to move it.

So, that’s from $33/MB down to less than 1/2 mil per MB.

    WOW!

Yes, that works. But it is less than elegant, in my opinion.
As a newbie, I’m fiddling on the fly. So, as i make changes I preview. Some of my changes are obviously wrong, so i change again.
I guess is that I should just keep making my changes and when it is as good as I think I can make it save as a new preset.

On reflection, I think I am trapped in how Word or other s/w products work. I need to ‘have faith’ that the changes I make in Vegas will get rendered as I want.

    Lot’s to learn.

    Thanks for your help.

Never mind, they finally came back.
But it was the same on IE and Firefox.

    Nice try Ed!
