I got a fix from Nils Schneider from Cycore Systems today. I have an 8-core Nehalem 2.26 machine running AE CS3. He said there was a fix for CS4, but not one for CS3 at this time.

There may be other ways to download the CHUD tool set from Apple, but here’s how I did it: I created a login at the ADC (Apple Developer Connection). You can find it at https://connect.apple.com. Select “Downloads”, then “Developer Tools” from the bar on the right. Use the “Apple-F” key to search for CHUD, and download the CHUD 4.6.2 image.

Once you have the image, go ahead and run the “CHUD.mpkg”. Once the package is installed, navigate to the system drive (Macintosh HD on my machine), /Developer/Extras/PreferencePanes folder. You’ll see a file called Processor.prefPane there. Double click on that. It will load a “Processor” icon under “Hardware” in your System Preferences. When you click on that icon, you’ll see options to enable/disable CPUs and a button to allow you to turn Hyper-Threading off. Remove the check mark and you’re all set. Start up AE and everything should work fine.

I actually went to Discmakers. They were able to repair my printer section. Of course, I bought a 3 year bumper to bumper warranty with the unit, of which I”m in the first six months of it. Discmakers wouldn’t honor that, but instead of a $2,300 paperweight, for $350 I have a publisher unit that I can use; for now. My email address is kentrich@graniteriverstudios.com. I would love to keep in touch with other burned individuals.

  • You know George, I’ve been working with Encore since it was first released, and I’ve seldom had the reason to truly understand how the override feature works until now. You’ve helped drive the whole concept home for me. Thank you.

  • I thank you for the words of wisdom George, and I have tried that. What I’m looking for the piece to do is loop indefinitely when I choose the “Play and Loop” button. Would you have a technique for that?

    Many thanks,

  • Here’s the configuration: MacBook Pro, playing out of a FCP 5.1.4 timeline. Footage is DV NTSC. I’ve got a Sony projector connected to the DVI output (VGA) of the laptop.

Thanks very much. I’m glad I’m not the only one. I’ve since switched to using the generic DV capture settings, and it seems to be working fine.

Please keep us all posted concerning this training. Myself, I’m moving into the HD world with great anticipation, but would rather not have to make all the mistakes using the trial and error method. Anything that will help me to improve my workflow and get me better acquainted with my equipment will help me save time, and as it was stated before, time is money. Thank you very much for starting this dialogue.

Thank you all very much. I’ll give them a try. I especially like the idea of taking the lenses out of the glasses; such a simple idea, but I didn’t think of it.
