Ah! Sorry – worked it out. Apparently mattes don’t show up on my system if the programme monitor window is at 1/4 resolution. Changing to half or full resolution fixed this for me!

    Cheers, Ken.

Yes I tried that, but then some of the windows fail to re-open next time the title is used, and I have to re-select them from the drop down menu. But not to worry it’s a small thing. Larger issues I had are as follows, if you have any thoughts?

Actually I’ll start another thread above to avoid confusion, under the title:

Consolidate missing files and slow GUI

Many thanks for your response, Ken.

  • Since posting I’ve got Premiere working correctly again. I went into the mac Audio preferences, and switched outputs around a few times, selecting internal speakers and then the BM output. This fixed the problem. However I couldn’t re-create the problem by putting the audio outputs back how they were…. it was like it just needed switching to clear some kind of code blockage…. who knows! I’ve had a similar problem of timeline refusing to play some while back on a different system, on that occasion gave up and went to FCP.

    Hope this works for you.

Thanks Tim – sorry it’s the NVIDIA 4000 with 256 CUDA cores not the Radeon, my mistake, just bought it quarter price ex-demo. Would have liked a faster card but so much else to get. I’ll look at the RAM issue though – and see what price I can get on 16GB or more as you recommend. As you might have now seen with my earlier post, problem solved for now though so I’ll plough on and see how the system responds.

    Cheers, Ken.

Solved already! A beginners mistake probably. In the Premiere sequence settings I had selected Blackmagic Uncompressed as my Editing Mode, and in Preview Settings, Blackmagic RGB 10bit as my codec. Changing the codec to ProRes seems to have sorted the problem and I still get a picture on my monitor. Plus I can export my timeline in 3 minutes instead of an hour. Plus Plus. Don’t know what impact changing the Edit mode will have, what does this do anyway? Must read the manual!

    Cheers, Ken.

We have a HT subscription – particularly like the unlimited storage space with no time limit – do other services offer this? Cheers Ken.

You Send It is also an interesting alternative. Although for the professional level access you need to pay just over 100 UKP per annum you do get a drop box with unlimited, indefinite storage. Great for archiving your entire library – and possibly cheaper than buying and replacing hard discs every few years.

Just tried the same thing. Flash video comes up full size – but cannot be played…. h264 video cannot play and the cloud refuses to send a link saying it’s an incompatible file type. Pretty useless! Back to Vimeo and Drop Box I’m afraid.

For anyone else coming across this problem…. I cloned my hard drive and booted again and this fixed the problem. Seems there is a known issue with some codecs not being correctly licensed during installation/registration. There is a FAQ from Adobe about this below.

June 21, 2012 at 11:55 pm in reply to: Trim with effects in clips?

Thanks it was a render issue. Although the clips played fine, in trim mode they vanished. Rendering fixed that…. until I started trimming with the JKL keys, and then I lost the picture again. The solution was to turn on rendering on-the-fly as suggested. the picture disappears during the JKL trim operation, but returns immediately trimming pauses, without having to leave trim mode and re-render. Even better feedback is obtained using the M<>? keys as the picture is not lost at all, even momintarily (although there is no sound this way).

So thanks for this great tip. I was wondering if another solution would be to temporarily disable the effects – but I could find no way (or mention) of this being possible, so I assume not. A global effect disable would also be great.

    Many thanks, Ken.
