No, that didn’t help. I ‘rendered for mixdown’ the entire sequence, then made a native res QT movie about 20 seconds long, still lags about ten frames, but only some clips, not all. What is different about playback vs. rendering? Somehow the TC (or the clips)is shifting when rendering.

Well, LTC is just high-frequency audio chatter(as opposed to VITC, which is recorded in the vertical interval of the video signal, selectable between lines 21 and 22).
If it is recorded on an audio channel as I mentioned in my previous post, then you would switch the playback mode of channel 2 on the deck to Audio and you would hear it and it is also available at the audio output connectors for channel 2. Then you just record that on a DVD (might have to be real-time, I’ve never tried it) I guess there are systems that will re-interpolate that from a DVD. Again , I haven’t done that

Decks with this capability will have either a front panel switch or menu item that toggles the audio input on channel 2 between Audio and LTC Timecode. It’s kind of a legacy feature in the digital age, and a lot of decks across formats don’t support it as they have dedicated timecode paths. The last deck that I owned that supported this was a Panasonic 7750 S-VHS recorder. That went into the back room in 2001. I have a UVW-1800 as well and it does not support LTC striping on Audio channel 2.
I don’t understand why the facility is specifying TC on an audio channel. Just so long as it can be output through a TC OUT connector it should work, unless they have some funky old captioning system…

I spoke to AJA this morning and they said it is merely a bug in the description of the Batch Capture dialog. It is in fact, as all displayed parameters support, NTSC.
My render line issue turned out to be caused by a doubling of the filters applied to each clip. There are 1,807 clips in the concert, and there were an average of 2 filters per clip (some had 3). I asked the band to rehire the fired lighting director so I could fire him again. 😉
Somehow every one of the clips’ filters got doubled so there were 4 and sometimes 6 filters per clip. This resulted in the sequence being unplayable. Fortunately there was a duplicate sequence that did not have this issue.
