    Shane:

Open the Log & Transfer window in FCP. High-light all the clips and press “Delete”. This will delete all the clips from the card, while retaining the clip-name file.

If you format the card from finder, then the first new clip you record on the card is back to 0001XX, which really sucks. If you reformat the card in the camera, the same thing happens, which means that you have to select all the clips in the camera and delete them there (as opposed to reformatting the card).

IMHO, reformatting a card is almost always a really bad idea, the exception being when you start a new “big” project”.

    Edward:
The HVX-200 records in DVCPRO HD, not HDV, and this is the mode it was in (720P/30PN). Also, it was not the camera that was clipping the audio, it was the wireless mic system (not sure if it was the transmitter or receiver, but probably the transmitter). As to the video noise, I’ve only seen it a few times in the year and a half that I’ve been using the camera and I have always just referred to it as a dropout. Click on the link to see what I’m talking about.

    JeremyG:
I was recording onto a 4 Gig P2 card, which was downloaded on a G4 laptop directly into Quicktime via FCP 5.1.4 I do not have the MXF original to check.

Thanks to both of you for your interest.

Thanks to COUNTDOWN for the help (but Shane’s cool too). I need to pay more attention to who’s talking to me I guess.

Didn’t even think of that. I’ll try it and let you know what happens.

Yeah, I’m racking my brain too.

The codecs are 8 bit, 10 bit, and RGBA in both 720p59.94 and 720p60. I’ve tried both of the 8 bit options, which is what I successfully used in the past.

I wouldn’t think that it’s a codec thing, considering that the shift-F12 will show the still frame, but command -F12 turns the screen black and won’t show a thing.

    ARG.

    Hey Shane.

I shoot most of my footage at 720p/60 and some at 720p/30PN. This timeline is mostly 60, although the sequence is 29.97.

It is all shot with the HVX200.

This is a recent problem. Typically everything works fine but I did a full reinstall of FCP to get rid of some flakieness (saddly, that problem still exists). Since the reinstall I’ve had this problem.

    Suggestions?

  • My guess is that the footage with the HVX was shot with the Optical Image Stabalizer engaged. If this function was on, then there really is nothing you can do about it (at least in my experience – if you can solve that, please let me know!).

ONLY use the OIS if the camera is hand held. Under all other circumstances, it should be off.

    Good luck.

The other thing you can do is drag the clip from the timeline into the browser and then experiment with different Alpha settings (scroll to the right).

    Good luck.
