I didn’t mean to be flippant, above, it is just that “cinematic” is so subjective. It can mean so many things to so many people that it is almost impossible to define, let along build a plugin to satisfy everyone.
FCP-7’s 3-way color corrector can do about as good of a job providing the variables to do about anything to a picture. We use it a lot to add the look we want for a particular project. You should find this useful in building your own “cinematic” feel.

What does “cinematic” mean? Contrast, exposure, colorimetry, artistic, composition, mood, flair, taste, moves, or all of the above.

Evan – Sounds like an out of focus back focus.
Check out this page for a correct proceedure to re-focus the back focus:

    Good luck.

P.S. You might want to download the back focus test pattern on the page to make it easiest.

What I see is an out of focus shot creating an over-all chromatic aboration effect. Nothing in the frame is in focus, including the guys on their knees who are relatively still. Low light with high contrast at transitions makes CA pronounced.
Shoot a high contrast subject (chrome object against a dark background) and watch what happens when you roll focus through the subject. This is more likely your problem rather than a DV deficiency.

April 26, 2013 at 12:34 am in reply to: HDV Capture wierd problem.

I am having the same basic problem, but with a JVC BR-HD50U and powerbook with FCP 6 as well as additional problems. I just had the firewire in the HD50 repaired and have, in the interim, successfully been using a JVC GY-HD100U as a playback deck.
With the repaired HD50 deck installed I also am having a problem with deck/display controls. The Log & Capture window indicates “VTR-OK”. But when I click the play button in the Log & Capture window the deck (delayed about 5 sec.) plays with only black in the LC window and with all zeros on the Time Code display. Click stop and deck (also delayed) stops . . . now with all zeros in its TC reader; then a freeze frame of the stopped frame appears in the Log & Capture window. Click on the stop button a second time and the correct TC appears. This action repeats.
By going back to the GY-HD100U as a play deck I now have the same problem as with the HD50.

It seems like a software problem, but I have no experience with anything like this. Certainly could use some help.

    Thanks.

  • How are you viewing the camera . . . LCD, viewfinder, broadcast monitor? How do color bars look? Have you auto white balanced the camera? What do you mean “renders yellowish color”? Was the camera accidentally white balanced on something other than a white card?
I don’t have any answers, but just wondered if these things had been checked.
    Good luck,
    Ken

    I guess we know.

Hope that the re-shoot/re-write goes better for Diego.

Mark – If you don’t get a reply, you’ll know.

  • Wrong. I have a GY-HD100U and a GY-HD200UB and either HDV or SD tapes are interchangeable with them, either way. . . 100>200 or 200>100. I personally don’t know about the HD250, but I understand that it, too, is interchangeable with both the HD100 & HD200.
Also, tapes from either camera play and capture on the BR-HD50.
    Regards,
    Ken
