What happens if you create a new sequence and drag a few of your clips into it without adding any filters?
Do you still get the crashes?

Hangs and beach balls sounds to me like it might be bad RAM.
You might try a test where you take out all but 4GB of RAM and see what happens.

If it was crashing before the new RAID was installed I don’t think it is the RAID.

It sounds to me like you might have bad RAM. Did you recently install any RAM into this machine? At the very least you might take out all of your extra RAM and try a test with only a couple of sticks of RAM.

Check your deck’s menu setting for “iLink”. It needs to be set to “On”.

    Press play on VHS.
    Press record on DHR-1000.
When dubbing is complete just capture like you would any other DV tape into FCP.

Perhaps it is in “Advanced Options”?
I don’t have a DHR-1000 so that is about all I can help.

The Menu settings won’t show up through the DV output – connect a monitor to one of the “video out” outputs and you should be able to see the Menu screen.

Back in my linear days we pulled some fantastic keys from “super black”. In fact, Dave LaRonde spoke about it at length in 2008:

I do not own a DHR-1000, but I do own a DSR-20 and I bet the controls are similar. Like I said, I prefer to dub everything to DV tape then capture from the DV dub, but to capture without dubbing:

    1. Press the button on the DHR-1000 labeled “Input Select”. There should be three choices of input select: Video, S-Video, and DV. If your video from the VHS is connected with an RCA or BNC cable choose “Video”. If your video is connected with an S-VHS cable choose “S-VHS”.
    2. Press the button on the DHR-1000 labeled “Menu”. Move the selection arrow down to the menu setting for “DV EE Out”. This should be set to “On”.
