I played out UHD video using ONE tricked out MacBook Pro retina and a Datapath X4 . the 4 HD signals were then fed to a Barco switcher then to 4 blended projectors for a end result of a 7000 pixel x 1080 image across a 110′ screen. sweet. no hitches, was even able to do fades between video loops. Playback Pro is the way to go.

    Hello all.

I see this is an older thread but found it looking for something else.
Anyway, after fighting this myself for a low cost digital signage app, I found a solution.
Create your videos in H264 as Quicktime .mov
    download Media Player Classic
    https://mpc-hc.org/
this player does seamless loops but only of quicktime, not sure why but it works.

One way, (I never tried but may work):
Name all your clips as numbers, 001, 002…etc.
Then just replace video clip in folder PBP is working from with same #. The DANGER in this is if PBP wants to play a clip that is in the process of being copied over. Again, you have to test this out.
Your other choice is SCALA products. Made for digital signage but the player does play video clips and is made for changes on the fly. Its not as commonplace as PBP and very pricey.
Lastly, use 2 PBP macs running and use a switcher, while on is offline, you can change clip order/etc. I’m not sure how short each clip is and that may be an issue not giving you time to re-arrange clips.

    Good luck

    I tried on my CS5.5, QT H264 output was fine @2160 X 720.
Check your scaling options in the encoding options window, you may have a preset checked off at 2000 pixels.

We actually kept everything inside tent. The “doghouse” was actually just a lot of black drape both on sides and on TOP to keep light from bleeding into the rear projection.
Use a bright projector with a wide angle lens.

If you want to eamil me directI can send a couple of photos and our diagram for layout.

Thanks for the info. I looked on the Stewart web site and saw a mention that a long throw projection is recommended (makes sense).
We have space for long throw in one venue.
I will contact you if management goes in this direction. thanks again for the very helpful info.

    Matt,

that sounds real interesting. I did some reserach on gray screens and found they work best for motion video. We usually switch Powerpoint presentations to same screen we open with (In this case, would be a 3D stereo opening video). What I read is any static presentation screens, especially using white backgrounds,w ill look dull and washed out sue to the gray screen material.
Being you have exeperience with this, have you found that to be true?
Or did you just project video on the screen?

Im also reading that the audience cannot be off center or you lose the 3D Effect. That doesn’t seem to happen in movie theatre?

    Correction

CS5 and up has QT issues. You need to use CS4 After Effects to effectively work with exporting .mov files.

    February 1, 2012 at 4:59 pm in reply to: AE CS 5 Cant open/export QuickTime (Win 7 – 64bit)

Same issue here and with a brand new fresh insatll of Win 7 Pro and CS 5.0 with all updates.
Seems AE cant handle .mov as source and export to another .mov
The UGLY workround is to export first to lossless AVI (dont forget to check audio output if needed). THEN import that AVI drop on new timeline and export to QT , also helps to select Edit > Purge> All to clear out any memory cache from RAM previews.

    Hope that helps
