[alex gardiner] “going down the ‘add network location’ route rather than mapping a drive”

Making sure the volumes mount under the c:/volumes directory is the best bet, but how to do that varies depending on the SAN you’re using.

If it mounts under c:/Volumes, every application sees the same file path:

    /Volumes/Volume_Name/folder/file

Just giving my 2 cents… I work for Warm Springs Productions in Missoula Montana, managing 4 Facilis servers with a combined total of 240TB of shared storage. We just completed the transition from FCP 7 to Avid, and while there were definitely some growing pains, Facilis was a good choice for us, as it works great for both Final Cut and Avid. They even have some project sharing tools for Final Cut and Premier.

If you need help with workflows or migration from one system to another, feel free to drop me a line. It’s not something you want to tackle on your own. kendallATwarmspringsDOTtv

Talk with Shane R. at Facilis, he may be able to direct you to a used unit at a very reasonable price.

I’ve run into this several times with 6.5.4 on osx.8.5 and 8.4. I’m trying the copy to desktop to fix it.

    Thanks for the info!

Thanks Bryson for pointing me in the right direction.

I’ll test my savvy on some non-essential media and build it into the workflow once I’ve got it nailed down.

Yes… I’m using the newest version of Avid. Gott a love the “enhancements”.

Let me know what you find out, and thanks for the quick response!

We have been using CatDV server for about a year, and are moving from Final Cut Studio 7 to Avid.
I’ve been playing with this workflow, and have not been able to get files to relink when moving from CatDV to Avid.

    Here’s what I’m shooting for:
    1) Import P2 into Avid and Consolidate to Facillis SAN (in Avid Unity mode)
    2) Log P2 in CatDV
    3) Backup P2 with Storage DNA (LTO5)
    3) Use MME to move metadata back to Avid
    4) Transcode to Dnx low res for offline
    5) Reconnect to P2 and transcode sequences to DnxHD220 for final edit.

We are using the mxf option on CatDV and have the Calibrated plug-in in place.

    My questions are somewhat specific…
In your post, you said “In the case of P2 if you use AMA and the Avid has seen the AMA VOLUME previously ie the assets have been already added to the project the clips will auto relink and the metadata will be displayed.”

I have the volumes connected in Avid, but it is only relinking audio. Is this a problem you’ve encountered before? It seems like a volume path issue, but I haven’t been able to get over this hurdle.

    Some related, more general questions:
Does it make a difference if you use AMA or not in this workflow, since Avid can use P2 natively?
What roadblocks can we expect in terms of reconnecting to P2 for final edit (our sequences are hour long with 1000’s of edits).

    Looking forward to your response!

    Hi Bryson –

Wondering how you set up the worker node to trigger a compressor session. I’ve got it rendering proxies, but am not sure how to trigger the 3rd party apps. Any videos or links you know of? I’m coming up empty after searching.

We are just getting set up do do this. We recently installed the SDNA and are backing up recently completed projects. With our next project we are going to start using the two in concert. Any advice?

November 29, 2012 at 6:36 am in reply to: Apple QMaster for Maya/After Effects rendering?

Not sure what version of AE you have, but according to the After Effects Community’s post on Network Rendering, you can install AE6 Render Engine without serializing. In other words, one license for your whole farm. More info here, and lots of good info on qmaster setup, etc in apple’s qmaster manual.

Check your version # on qmaster to see if you have the right manual. Best of luck! I’m going to be doing qmaster farm with 10-15 part-time service nodes sometime in the next few weeks. 🙂
