Apple QMaster for Maya/After Effects rendering?
Hello
I also posted this in the Maya forum – there isn’t a specific Qmaster forum – yet!
I have the opportunity to access a fair amount of computing power (about 6 reasonably specced MacPros on a fibrechannel network) and wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of how to set up network rendering using Apple Qmaster. I use Apple Compressor, After Effects and Maya, all of which theoretically could use such a cluster, but I have no idea how to set it up.
Would I need Maya/After Effects installed on each cluster node? I’m assuming not, because the Qmaster documentation hints at using the cluster as one big processor. If I need to install additional Maya licences, then the cost would throw the whole idea out the window. I know I could install After Effects’ render engine on the machines for free, but a Qmaster/cluster setup seems much neater – one solution to render Maya, AE and Compressor jobs.
I’ve found a lot of information on specific areas and problems in the Qmaster workflow, but I’m really looking for a ‘beginner’s guide’!
Thanks in advance,
Paul
