  • Oh boy, this brings back memories! I was B-Cam/Steadicam on a feature a couple of years on and we were shooting on the F-35. We had major issues with ghosting with the camera. It was mostly ext high contrast shots. It was so bad they flew in a very expensive engineer to sit in a tent and watch for ghosts! Gives a whole new meaning to the word “Ghost Busters”!:) They never really figured what was causing it. We originally thought it was filter kick, but it still happened without filters. I’ve never seen this with any other camera, maybe a sensor issue?

I have made that dreaded mistake of shooting in 720/30pn mode, slo-mo with NO audio! It’s not a huge difference when you look at it as it’s only 6fps difference from 24-30fps. Now when you try to match it with 30 or try to sync audio, that’s when you soon realize that you made a HUGE mistake!! You would “assume” that the frame rate would automatically switch over to 30 when you select 720/30pn, but unfortunately it doesn’t, it defaults to 24fps, at least on the first generation of HVX-200, I think they fixed it on the newer model. When you select 720/30pn, you have to manually change the frame rate to 30fps under scene file.

    Good luck!

Aaaaaah, you are right Jeremy! I never noticed that before. I just checked my camera and never saw the “default” option under frames rates before. Thanks for pointing that out!

No, it’s pretty straight forward Kyle. I’m assuming you don’t have audio, at least on the camera, correct? Open CT, open the QT file you want to conform, select the conform button, and then choose 29.97. It should work…….. fingers crossed!

Hey Kyle, I feel your pain, been there…..done that! I also feel for your DP! I have no idea why the HVX-200 doesn’t default to 30fps when you switch it over to 30PN anyway, seem like a no brainer to me! Any who, here’s what I did (thanks to our good friend Graeme Nattress !) I just brought the clips into Cinema Tools. Conform to what ever flavour you want, 23.98, 24, 29.97, etc. and a way you go.

    Good luck!

Hey Rich. You might want to read my post, here is the link:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/178/855251?

I would highly recommend a doing a test before forking over tons of $$ for a heli shoot that is unusable! I ended up shooting it again on the AJ-1400 deck which I thought would solve my problems, NOT! We had another problem, major vibrations issues with the Tyler mount, the top 10-15% of the frame had some serious vibrations, mostly in one direction. Also, you will need an adapter plate to raise the camera up so you can fix the HVX handle to the Tyler. However, this still didn’t solve my vibration problems! I could go on and on here, but I’m sure you get my point!

In a nut shell, it was a ^#$*(#())_ nightmare! Lesson learned, never assume it will work……….. assumption only gets you in trouble!!!

An update. I managed to get it working! For someone else that runs into this problem, you have to change dif setup, 880 dif speed to 0000 (S100). I’m still not sure why the same config. wouldn’t work with the HVX and the DSR-45. Any thoughts on this?? Any who, I’m just glad I got it to work!

Thanks again guys for all your help!

Ok, here’s an update guys. I did a little trouble shooting last night. I hooked up the HVX-200 to HD-1400 through firewire and I could get an image on the HVX (camera set to 480/60i). I connected the HVX to the DSR-45 through firewire (camera set to 480/60i) and it worked fine. So I have no clue why the DSR-45 won’t see the signal from the 1400 when connected through firewire with all the same settings. Any ideas??

    Thanks

Thanks Gary & Rune. My apologies Gary. What I meant was 0002 not 002, I was looking under menu-basic that goes 001, 002, 003, etc. NOW I know where you got the 0002 from (sub of 894!). I’ve tried the settings that you gave but no go. Here’s what I have:

020 1080i (same as my tape format)
    022 manual
023 HD_LP ( same as my tape format)
    864-0002 (DV)

HD-1400 connected to DSR-45 through firewire. No image???

I know, it’s probably something very stupid that’s I’m not seeing here. Any suggestions??

    Thanks.
