Here’s the image. I’ve shifted it to the left to allow more space for onscreen text, and I just want to copy some of the sky background with a soft seam and patch the area on the right that resulted from shifting the image.

Yes, that’s exactly what I want to do, however Pan/Crop leaves me with a hard edge, and I need a feathered crop so it doesn’t leave a visible seam.

Hey Erik–

The “Match Aspect” didn’t do anything, but what fixed it was to un-check “Stretch to fill frame” on the pan crop window (which I still don’t understand, because nothing shifted after I did that, and I’m positive the “letterbox mask” image is the right size.

Oh well, you pointed me to a new troubleshooting tool anyway, so thanks.

Hey Sean–

Just go to the “Get more presets” part of Squeeze and you can download it. I think it’s called “broadcast_H264_SD”.

So far, all I’ve been doing is rendering uncompressed MOVs and importing them to Squeeze and outputting the final H264 files. They look great, and a 30-sec. spot goes from about 1.6GB to about 75MB.

By the way, I typically have to upload to a lot of stations here, and every one of them have different specs. I asked them all to humor me on a file test to see if I could find one flavor that fit them all. The MOV/H264 worked for everybody, so it took the insanity out of spot distribution. If you find yourself in the same boat, you might ask your stations to try it as well.

Hey Sean–

Not sure what to tell you about MPEG2, but I submit spots to Comcast as well (I’m in Oregon) and I arranged to send them MOV/H264 files and they have no problem with them (and look better). If you pull too many hairs out, maybe you could do the same (?) If so, and if you’ve got Sorenson Squeeze, I could point you to a downloadable preset that makes nice files that all the local stations here like just fine.

So, if I go “Lower field first” on project properties, with “Blend Fields” on de-interlace method, and “Lower field first” on the render setting that should be the ticket?

Sorry John… that’s set to “None”. And, I’m not even sure what De-Interlace does, and why I’d want to de-interlace if I have interlaced footage (?)

Regardless (and I’d love to know about it), what should it be set to, and in what circumstances would I use “blend” or “interpolate” (sorry, I’ve never had that option before)?
