Maybe After Effects is reading it incorrectly…

The original video is an h264 .mov which I brought into After Effects. Before I brought into after effects it was in perfect HD quality and looked like it was 1280×720. However, when I brought it into after effects it gave me that aspect ratio and blurred the video massively.

I then brought it into Final cut and it looked alright but had big black bars on the side. Unfortunately I’ve left work now, and can’t remember what aspect ratio it said in Final cut…

    Does this make any sense?

Also is there a way to check a video’s aspect ratio in quicktime before I bring it into editing software? That’s probably a really stupid question, but I tried to find it in quicktime and couldn’t.

Thank you! I’m just looking to understand the balance a little bit better. How did you determine that estimate? I usually work with videos between 2-5 minutes in length. Would the bit-rate be 4000 for something like that? And is it the same as kbits/sec? Sorry for all of the questions I’m just trying to get a good understanding on this.

sorry 1 minute and 15 seconds. I’m also exporting a 45m video… what would the best kbits/sec for that be? It’s just a presentation.

What would you say a large file to be in comparison to the bit rate? i have a 1.15 video with a 1000 bit rate. The client thinks it should be around 2,500…what do you think?

Thanks guys! I’m a new animator so this is a really helpful tool I didn’t know about.

thanks for that tutorial, its great, but I’m not really looking for stop motion. I’m looking for more of a jerky (not jumpy) motion. I assume the best way to do this is with key frames and position movement in after effects?
