bit rate
Posted by Kelly Armstrong on December 13, 2011 at 12:26 pmThis a really basic question but one I need to know. How does a higher or lower bit rate effect your exported video?

December 13, 2011 at 2:17 pmHigher bit rate….larger file, better quality. Lower bit rate…smaller file size, lower quality (more compression artifacts)

December 13, 2011 at 2:28 pmWhat would you say a large file to be in comparison to the bit rate? i have a 1.15 video with a 1000 bit rate. The client thinks it should be around 2,500…what do you think?

December 13, 2011 at 8:37 pmsorry 1 minute and 15 seconds. I’m also exporting a 45m video… what would the best kbits/sec for that be? It’s just a presentation.

December 13, 2011 at 9:51 pmBEST is subjective. Do you want it to look good, or be small?
1:15 with 2500 bit rate…at say 960×540…will look good. At 1000…not so much. Try it. Compress both ways and compare.

December 14, 2011 at 11:19 amThank you! I’m just looking to understand the balance a little bit better. How did you determine that estimate? I usually work with videos between 2-5 minutes in length. Would the bit-rate be 4000 for something like that? And is it the same as kbits/sec? Sorry for all of the questions I’m just trying to get a good understanding on this.

Experience. Trial and error.
[kelly armstrong] ” I usually work with videos between 2-5 minutes in length. Would the bit-rate be 4000 for something like that?”
No. The bit rate doesn’t double when you increase the times.

Compression is a dark art…is a full profession onto itself.
Might I suggest this:
