January 6, 2011 at 6:17 pm in reply to: Confusion About Anamorphic Video and De-InterlacingBut if I want the DVD to remain 16:9, then I just use normal settings in Compressor? Anything special I need to do in DVDSP to have the highest quality SD 16:9 DVD possible?

Mr. Weiss,
Thanks for your quick reply. I do agree with your assessment – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. However, because I didn’t know about the compatibility issues when I first started, I have never worked with a ‘rock-solid system’ to know whether or not mine is ‘broke.’ I do experience unfortunate crashes (not often, but every once in a while), and it of course is not fun for this to happen during the export of a 45-minute movie that takes an hour to export. Should I except this as inevitable at times, or would having a ‘rock-solid system’ fix this problem?
What other signs should I look for to know whether or not my setup is working well? As I said, I’ve come to accept and expect certain sporadic things like crashes, slow renders, bad render manager data, etc., as normal, and I have worked around them as needed. Should I keep doing what I’m doing, or are there red flags here? Thanks!

Just today talked to Brian, the rep at AJA for Ki Pro Mini. Rafael is correct… upon shipment of Ki Pro Mini – which they hope is soon, but couldn’t give any definite dates – they will post recommended cards and readers in the manual and to the site.

If you can squeeze in about $50 more, you can get a pair of Samson Rubicons. I edit for video with FCP constantly, and these monitors are a ‘good bang for the buck.’ I haven’t had trouble with taking my videos elsewhere and frequencies being completely off, as can happen with lower quality/monetarily cheaper versions of other brands.

Where is the output from your SD 302 eventually winding up? Is it possible to boost your recording level at that end? If you are using the mixer to go straight into speakers, or if you are recording into a computer, you should have some control there. As long as you can get a good, even mix from the SD, you should be able to boost the level at the recording or output end.
If you are having trouble with signal-to-noise ratio upon boosting, I would say you probably have a faulty piece of equipment that might need fixing. I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about the 302, so unless everyone else is crazy, you might just have received a bum piece of gear, and in that case, I hope it’s still under warranty, and that they will send you a new one. Hope some of this helps…

Hey Andrew,
Did you preview the audio input you were getting at that second venue before recording it: through headphones, etc.? It would be helpful to know this information, because if you didn’t preview it, it’s possible that it wasn’t working that entire time and one of your mics or even your mic inputs went faulty. Have you recorded anything since that event with no problems? Answers to these questions would help us zone in to identify the source of the issue. Hope you can find the problem.

December 4, 2009 at 3:39 pm in reply to: ADMIN: Notice of impending policy change regarding posting in this forumHey Ron,
I really appreciate everything that the COW does for my work. I’m not able to post much – I’m trying to get into this more – but the information I find from searching threads is invaluable.
I do have one suggestion about what has been said. Maybe it is possible that one of the filters or organizational views could be ‘Unread/Unanswered Posts.’ A lot of times I will go around the COW searching for new posts that have no answer yet, in which I might be able to help. I’m personally not one to butt into an already budding dialogue, though if I think I can help, I will.
I believe that a bulk of the problem is unanswered posts, and therefore, people get frustrated and post wherever they think someone might answer. If you could have such a filter and put in people in charge of monitoring that particular filter, it may help keep cut down on people posting where they shouldn’t. Just a suggestion…
