  • Are you kidding me right now? That works so great!!! I had started to give up hope. Your name suits you. You are very wise. And I had forgotten about Andy! I used to use Andy’s Safe Guides back in the FCP days. And now I have it for Premiere! So great to be able to show guides on your client monitor output. And it has the free guides so you can move guides around right within Premiere (like you think would be built in since it’s Adobe).

So this was a two-fer positive gain for me on this Friday night. I owe you and this Andy fella a beer or two. Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the responses, guys. It’s weird, as of this morning, it’s been working just fine, so I’m not going to mess with it.

Merlin, thanks for the info. I will try that if it stops working again.

Graham, even when it wasn’t working, monitor 3 was always checked. If I checked monitor 2, then went back into preferences, it switched back to monitor 3. But still no output. Weird.

Well, if all else fails, I do have a T-Tap on my other system that I can steal temporarily. But I use the third monitor on this system as a computer monitor for other applications, which is why I’m trying to get this setup to work.

    Thanks again for the responses.

Ah, something like that sounds familiar. I should have written down more details at the time, but the whole process was a bit messy and frustrating. Glad you got it sorted out!

I don’t have a list of everything I deleted and where it lived. I just followed along with Apple Tech Support. I was on the phone with AJA a couple of times and Apple a couple of times. I think it’s just a matter of getting lucky and talking to someone who knows what they are doing. But mentioning that deleting some cache files and files in the Library folder allowed High Sierra to finally see the T-Tap, might get them in the right direction.

Thanks for the responses, guys. It ended up being something in High Sierra not allowing the system to see the T-Tap. I talked to Apple tech support and they had me delete a bunch of cache files and other things from my Library folder and now everything is working fine.

  • Thanks for the info, Mark. I was hoping that wasn’t the case.

  • Thanks for the response, Michael. The production company I’m working with got the miniDV transfers because they didn’t have an HD deck for digitizing. I’ll check into getting HD files from the transfer house. That would be great to have that stuff at 24fps. If we can’t get HD files, though, can FCP remove pulldown on film footage transferred to miniDV?

We are going to stick with ProRes and use Clipfinder to transcode the RED footage.

The producer has already been in talks with the online house. All the prep work thus far has been based on their input. This job is out of town and the assistant is prepping all next week. I have a meeting with the online people once I get in town to go over the editing process. I’m trying to get some clarity on the prep for this workflow.

    thanks again,
    Keith

Yeah, I didn’t think it was right. It doesn’t seem to be a pulldown issue. Everything plays back smoothly, it just looks like I’m only seeing one set of fields. Almost like there is a half res box checked somewhere. If there is a diagonal line somewhere in the frame, it’s a bit stair-steppy.

I won’t be outputting this project from this box, so I guess I’ll be fine for now, but it would be nice to figure this out for the future.
