  • Repo and resize video under an animated matte with Track Matte.

I’m looking for a solution that does not involve nesting the video layer. I saw someone suggest putting a “Transform” effect for resizing and “Offset” for repo (both above the Track Matte in the effect tab). And that works for minor adjustments. But the video layer gets cropped if I shrink the video down or repo it too much. In one case I have an animated matte (white on black) for each of five video layers. I need some video layers shrunk down about 40% and moved far to one side. The above method won’t work for that scenario.

I am looking to do this within Premiere. Is nesting my only option?

Track Matte Key is a big failure in Premiere.

In legacy Final Cut 7 you could put any size fill clip into any size matte clip and have 0 problems.

i have used Andys Better 3D to overcome Premiere’s failure.

On the Track Matte Key layer apply Andys Better 3D ABOVE the Track Matte then adjust Z position.

    Done.

Are you kidding me right now? That works so great!!! I had started to give up hope. Your name suits you. You are very wise. And I had forgotten about Andy! I used to use Andy’s Safe Guides back in the FCP days. And now I have it for Premiere! So great to be able to show guides on your client monitor output. And it has the free guides so you can move guides around right within Premiere (like you think would be built in since it’s Adobe).

So this was a two-fer positive gain for me on this Friday night. I owe you and this Andy fella a beer or two. Thanks again!

I’ve been looking for a third party solution to Pr’s lousy Track Matte for years. This is good to know, but I do not like the FX Factory model for plug-ins. I’ve written to several plug-in developers of Pr plug-ins and asked them to take this on.

Adobe could improve on track matting easily as FCP 7 did by making mattes one of the Transfer Modes.
