And what does the problem seem to be? If you export a qt movie, not conversion, then it should be just fine. If you drop your footage into a new sequence with ‘Auto Conform Sequence’ set to ask and let it change the sequence, what does it change it to? As long as you are not misinterpreting your footage you shouldn’t have a problem. But please, state your problem.

Nope, no to my knowledge. Since nothing plays at 120 you should try to use a 60fps timeline and see if time remapping it manually gives you that extra information, (or if it plays at normal speed, or if it plays at half speed). You will know if it is by reducing the speed to 50% and if there is no nasty jitters or frame blending or if it looks choppy or not, it should be smooth. Otherwise try whatever setting you’re finishing at and try the time remapping there. I would try the 60fps just because it’s half of 120 and if it plays normal speed and not slo-mo then you can at least test to see what you can edit with. I am assuming you don’t want all your footage slowed down so if you did the cinema tools way, you should use QT 7 and set in and out points and SAVE AS to keep your original intact in case something goes wrong later on and then use cinema tools to conform selects to your editing timebase.
Also, you could bring it into after effects and you can use whatever timebase you want, or even change the interpreted frame rate if you wished. (maybe Motion allows you?)
Testing as much as you can to see what works and what doesn’t is usually what happens.

When you import PSD to FCP it comes in as a sequence, that’s what your “separate timeline’ is all about. Jpgs cannot hold a transparency channel (only RGB) so there will be no alpha (RGBA) and it will show either a white or black bkgrnd. You should be using AE for your graphics animation, FCP is clunky.

It’s my understanding that DPX files are just an image sequence and therefore cannot contain any audio. You should therefore have been given an audio mix or whatnot that came separate with the original and you would have to join the two again for output. Hope this helps!

So then when you hit submit do you then choose your cluster? If you don’t have Q-master setup properly you should do so as it will take advantage of all your cpu power. The setup is different for every machine (so it seems as I work at a school that has 4 mac labs and not even in 1 lab can I use the same setting for every machine) so you would have to configure it for your system. I am going to be helping out on 4 or so small features this year and I am looking for all kinds of sfx to meld and create new and interesting sounds. Well, now the problem is, is that the IT dept won’t give me admin access anymore even though I took care of this place for over 5 years, and I’m still waiting on them to respond (they are very slow, mentally and physically) so I can’t test the admin account, but that would only tell me that their new floating system “for security” is a bad idea, which I have been telling them since they did it. It took them over 6 months to get Maya working right so I should expect no less.

Hi there sir. Yep I know it’s a separate app and I meant to say I trashed it’s prefs as well as FCP, and I have ” Video output is set at AJA KonaLHi 1080psf 23.98 10 bit.” in setup room as per the settings, even though when I opened a FCP project with different frame rate and size than yesterday the card played back without any problems, I didn’t even change the Control Panel settings when it was a pain to get it to work yesterday. Please tell me that Kona card doesn’t like mixed frame rates and sizes on the FCP timeline so I can stress the importance to the students of conforming all your footage before editing. Running it by itself and still no luck, only a black frame. All settings are as the AJA guy and previous poster had mentioned. What I don’t get is that After Effects sees it without needing to do anything and at every setting I have tried last night, weird.

Yep, I quit FCP and launched Color separately but still no luck. The AJA guy I have been emailing says it’s a curious thing. Could it be the many users we have on the system mucking things up? I am trying to sign in as faculty but now I am running into permission problems that have nothing to do with this problem. Or maybe it does? Might it only work for 1 account on the machine and not a load of floating accounts? (that’s how IT describes their new login system.

Thanks for your help and patience. All is set for FCP, not a problem there but all I get is a black screen in Color. Video output is set at AJA KonaLHi 1080psf 23.98 10 bit. Is there a check box I just don’t see? Or are we just out of luck. The color manual has no good info about using external monitors. “To turn on external video monitoring Choose an option from the Video Output pop-up menu, in the User Prefs tab of the Setup room.”
Yeah, but when it doesn’t work then what? I am so naive about the Kona card and their user manual seems pretty worthless to me. Is there no troubleshooting steps to take? I’ve trashed prefs for FCP and Color and have done restarts but nothing has changed.
