I knew that subclips in Avid were searchable but I thought it was limited to that particular subclip’s name. Can a user add keywords to subclips in Avid?

    Daniel,

Creating subclips in Avid isn’t really serving the same purpose if you can’t attach metadata to those subclips and then have that metadata searchable. I’ve never used FCPX but it’s my understanding that a single clip can contain virtually unlimited metadata/keywords. The advantage to this is that one subclip could serve many functions. So, instead of having to sift through every subclip, visually, for the shot you’re looking for you could simply do a search for, for example, any clip that had the keyword “scope” attached to it. Does this make sense?

Just wondering if the original poster ever found a solution to this problem. I’m having the same issue. I’ve searched everywhere and can’t figure out why FCP does this. I have plenty of handle on both sides of my media but whenever I do and extend edit, the transition length doesn’t hold and turns into a one frame dissolve. I’ve also noticed that it’s not possible to click and drag dissolves to other tracks [as a very fast way of duplicating/copying transitions to other tracks] via option + click + drag. The result is the same: a one frame dissolve.

Both of these issues are resolved by trashing prefs but they only stick for so long before I start seeing them again. Does anybody know what gives here? Why does it seem that only a few FCP users experience this problem?

    Derek,

Trailer houses won’t usually hire editors w/o previous trailer cutting experience. I think you have to start at the bottom and work your way up.
