In System Settings – Playback Control I switched from Dynamic to High and that seemed to correct my playback issues. Thanks

Ha Ha! And I was going to send you a thanks for my compressor/codec problem yesterday! You we’re probably right. First I installed the XDCAM EX 720p 60 codec recommended by someone else but then I upgraded my version 6 Final Cut software. So like the proverbial chicken and the egg. Which fixed my problem first? The SONY codec install someone else suggested or your recommendation to upgrade my app? I’m just glad it all worked. I’m still not “out of the woods” yet with this project but I will extend my thanks for your reply.

  • The link you sent me was one of the best things that’s happened during this basically total reinstall! Gotta love the Cow and knowledgeable people like yourself that take the time to respond to these posts!

  • Original footage was shot on SDHC cards with the JVC GY-HM700U. Image size is 1280 x 720 shot with the XDCam EX 720p30 codec. Using Final Cut 6.0.1. When I’m in the Browser I don’t seeing any compressor listed for these QT files. How can I add/install this specific compressor/codec to Final Cut?

Thanks for the reply. I looked in the Roxio folder as you suggested but only found the item Roxio Restore. Any idea where else the menus could be located?

Thanks. I’ve already visited that link. Since it was dated from 2003 I was hoping for a more updated technique or approach.

I ran the Mac Disc Utility on the 2 external drives and there are no problems. The only problem appears to be an “invalid volume directory count” on the internal Mac HD. The directory count if off by 1. Any idea on how to correct that? That problem prevents me from running a disc repair on the Mac HD.

When you say drop on SD timeline in FCP what settings do you suggest for (a) pixel aspect ration (b) field dominance and (c) compressor?

The camcorder I use is the JVC GY HM700. When I first got it I ran a post on Cow and got some advice that the camera was best set up to shoot 1280 x 720p. The response was not good for 1080i60. I guess I should shoot with both settings at the next dress rehearsal and compare. Do you think shooting interlaced vs progressive could improve the final standard definition product?

So regardless of what frame rate setting I select in say Quicktime conversion or Apple Compressor, Adobe Encore will set for 29.97 during the transcode process for a standard definition DVD? Would it effect the transcode process in a more efficient way if the video file that I import into Encore was already 29.97 or is the frame rate really an issue here? Got to add my chapter points and create a chapter playlist next in Encore. Just want to my Timeline to be the best image quality it can be before transcoding.
