  • missing codec for Final Cut Pro with project deadline approaching!

Posted by Keith Betts on November 29, 2012 at 4:13 pm

iMac crashed while finishing a project. Had to rebuild from OS up to application install. Internal Mac HD is the problem and not accessible. When I pull up QT video files that were stored on an external firewire drive the audio is fine but the video screen is white. I believe the correct codec for playback is missing from my reinstalled FInal Cut app. Even when I try to play original footage recorded on SDHC card I get the same result – no video just white screen! And ideas? Project is due in less than 2 weeks. How do I locate and install the correct codec in Final Cut Studio 2?

What codec are you missing? What was the footage? What was it shot on? More info is needed for anybody here to help you.

Original footage was shot on SDHC cards with the JVC GY-HM700U. Image size is 1280 x 720 shot with the XDCam EX 720p30 codec. Using Final Cut 6.0.1. When I’m in the Browser I don’t seeing any compressor listed for these QT files. How can I add/install this specific compressor/codec to Final Cut?

You’ll need to install the XDCAM codec (if it’s missing) and the XDCAM Log & Transfer plugin for FCP if you need to recapture any footage.

The L&T plugin in is here:
    https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcam/resource.downloads.bbsccms-assets-micro-xdcamex-downloads-LogTransferUtilityAppleFCP.shtml

I’m sure if you dig around on Sony’s site or use Google you can find where to download the XDCAM EX codec or associated drivers for FCP. That’s what you’ll need though and you should be good to go.

[Keith Betts] ” shot with the XDCam EX 720p30 codec. Using Final Cut 6.0.1″
XDCAM is supported from FC.6.2 on.

    Again.
The L&T Plugin worth nothing if you don’t update your FC version.
The codec is on FC, not on the SONY software.
