What I’m currently doing is comparing the DVD compression preset for Compressor 4.1.1 versus the DVD preset for Sorenson Squeeze 9.0.3.11 for the same video file I referenced in my initial post. It appears that while Squeeze took an extremely long amount of time to do a 2 pass compression it has eliminated the unwanted artifacts resulting from the taped markings on the stage floor. Any experience or recommendations for encoding/compression software? While the price differential is huge between the two apps if the Squeeze preset eliminates those artifacts I certainly won’t have any buyer’s remorse. Now I have yet to build/master a DVD from this compressed file with my authoring app of choice, Adobe Encore; but I’m certainly hopeful the extra cost for Sorenson Squeeze was worth it!

Unfortunately I did not. I don’t think it was a problem with my Blu Ray versions of the event but just the standard def versions. Just another inherent problem when compressing HD content for standard definition DVD use. Some of my jobs involve providing authored standard def DVD copies of an event. I had always hoped Blu Ray would become more accepted but it just hasn’t caught on. When comparing Blu Ray versus standard def versions of an event that involves recording from a distance with no medium or close up shots the difference in image quality is considerable. When shooting medium range and close up I find the difference in Blu Ray versus standard def DVD’s to be far less distinguishable. Regarding my original problem and your inquiry, much like an on-air news talent wearing a suit with checks or similar pattern causing a flicker or moire effect, I hope to eliminate the taped lines on the stage floor in the future. However, knowing in advance of recording what may cause an artifact or flicker/moire problem after compression is probably not entirely possible.

Since i duplicate my own discs any suggestions how I can prevent them from being copied? I’m checking into settings with my duplicator right now. Other than that, any ideas? Thanks.

I’m using 3rd party templates and I believe the problem is not with Adobe but with the multiple content files included. The missing files appear as placeholders if that is the right term. And that indicates to me the files are missing. Even though they appear during preview and not with render. Does that sound like a better diagnosis?

Thanks! Looks like that worked. Just used Edit – Edit menu in Photoshop to change pixel dimensions. The only problem now is my button highlights appear with a different color than I originally choose in Photoshop. Any idea what may be causing that?

Menus created in Photoshop CS6 are 1280 X 720 pixels with a resolution of 72. I selected that image size to match my source video which is 1280 X 720. Completely baffled why button highlights would appear where they do on burned Blu Ray disc! They are correctly located in Photoshop.

Forgot my original post was regarding Blu Ray! In process of creating std def and Blu ray versions of a live event. I did successfully burn a Blu Ray disc in Encore. However that video file was a current settings 1280 X 720 QT movie I exported from FCP and not a H.264 file I had created in Compressor. I made a special note of that and while I was pleased I had created a Blu Ray disc I was stumped that the H.264 file did not work. Can’t recall what message in Encore appeared regarding H.264 file.
Regarding how I got my media/video file into Encore – I used “File – Import as – Timeline”

Unfortunately or fortunately however you look at it my editing app of choice is Final Cut X. I’ve read that Apple Compressor does a better job of compressing files compared to Adobe Media Encoder. Encore is my authoring app because of its seamless integration with Photoshop for menu creation. Do you think I might get better results with Adobe Media Encoder?

Thanks. I figured out to go to Channel Configuration and did like you stated, change audio from stereo to dual mono. I then used Clip – Expand Audio Component to access my two channels of audio and adjusted volume of my on camera mic to eliminate the delay yet maintain audience applause. Quite proud of myself as I transition from FCP 6 to X. Though I know it won’t always be this easy!

Any suggestions as to what app or software to use to transcode my edited sequences? Sequence settings in Final Cut Pro are 1280 x 720 XDCAM EX 720p30. My normal app for compressing files for standard definition DVD’s is Apple Compressor. Is there a setting you would recommend in Compressor for a blu-ray disc? I anticipate future blu-ray projects with multiple chapter points as well. Really like Encore for its seamless integration with Photoshop for creating menus but not convinced if it’s the best app for blu-ray authoring.
