Is this fo HD or SD media?
id HD jpeg seems more viable in SD jpeg is still better than DV and compresses much faster – true it is also much larger than H.264 but you can edit it in FCP with no hang-ups

if you need totally loosless compressed codec then sheer seems pretty good as well – I archive my film DI @ HD res in sheer codec – cuts the file size half but retains full qualty and supports 10bit

I think the problem is that BM card cannot read TC from SDI but only from 422 controll!?

If you work with uncomprssed timline then balckmagic design has decklink cards wich are rather inexpensive

  • If you are doing 8 bit 24fps 4:2:2

You are @ the limit so in the begining of the disk it might even handle – I have two striped 300GB disk and I have plyabakc for about 20min or so – but nothing that I would work with

If you are looking for a cheaper solution look @ transintl swift data 200 and sonnet 4+4 card

then you can have decent array inside yer G5

Going from old memories when I had the time to test my apple and hdlink combo I think 24 looked better than 25p but 30p was crisp clear – I leaft @ that and started working on the unit I do work in PAL country so I am not too happy about it

    I am sorry
I havent cheked how things are done in FCP 5 but int FCP 4.5 yes you could choose blackmagic for effect handeling and yes there are hardware aplications on the card for CC tools

I dont know how the things work under the hood – what I do know is that I have set the effect handeling to FCP all other than BMD 8 bit 2Vuy codec and when I remove the card – no longer are CC tools realtime – not to mention any HD monitoring

I heard the monitoring is now OK on cinemadisplay so only thing we need is someone without the hardware to try uncompressed 8 or 10 bit 1080i/p CC tools and we should have an answer?

    Actually NO
the color corrector is built into the card and yes you can make realtime CC on they fly even in HD with the exception on 4:4:4 RGB format

You see the intralcing because of the pulldown the apple display can show only 60fps anything other than that will be pulled down
I dont know the extac pulldown pattern for 25fps but 24fps should use 322!?
