August 9, 2016 at 9:07 am in reply to: Is it not possible to use GV HQX Avi in DaVinchi resolve?Resolve isn’t that fond of the AVI container, so no. It can work with HQX encoded video if it uses a quicktime container. Rewrapping is the easiest way to do that. I think Adobe Media Encoder has an option for that (at least in CC 2015).

August 9, 2016 at 8:51 am in reply to: Possibly making the switch from CS6 Premiere to Resolve. Looking for some advice!Good questions, unfortunately there aren’t any easy answers to them.
Both are track-based editing suites, so most of the operations are similar. Resolve uses a database (even if it may be only a file system database) for keeping track of editing and footage, hence the largest difference in using it is media management & project management.
I do recommend watching Alexis van Hurkmans introductory video for Resolve 12, some otherwise baffling things are explained there pretty well.Next is hardware – Resolve lives on a decent GPU. I’d still go for Nvidias CUDA, albeit Resolve can use OpenCL as well. Having the right GPU with plenty of memory – let’s say 4GB minimum – has more impact on fluid editing than almost everything else, assuming that your storage is capable of providing data fast enough and you have a decent SSD for render files.
Not surprisingly Resolve works exceptionally well with BMD’s I/O cards and in all honesty I would refrain from using it if you don’t have one, since desktop preview is, well, below par.
Learning the editing part of Resolve isn’t too difficult, you can also retain most of your Keyboard shortcuts as well and in all honesty – track-based editing hasn’t changed much in the last decade or so.
As mentioned above, importing & exporting media is completely different. Apart from that, trimming is maybe the part requiring most attention, since it differs a lot, especially if you are trimming multiple clips at once. Effects are another matter, there aren’t that many included with Resolve, but then I never used those in PPro that much either. But you’ll get real-time scopes. Color correction – well, let’s just say you are able to play with grown-up stuff here. Basic stuff is easy, but you really can do so much more if you delve into those tools. Takes time to learn, though.
Bottom line: For me, it was worth the switch. But then I came from PPro CC 2015, which I think is a huge step from CS6. Try it. If it works for you, fine. If not, don’t use it 🙂

June 1, 2016 at 9:27 am in reply to: Eye popping color in Resolve-fades after compression?Hi Matt,
that certainly is unexpected. OK, if you don’t care about proper levels for broadcast you can, of course, go to the deliver page in Resolve and tweak the output settings to export the full data levels (in the 12.5 beta you’ll find those within the video panel under advanced settings) instead of “Auto”.

Maybe I misunderstood, but wouldn’t a timeline node be sufficient for what you need?
Just switch in the top right corner from clipto timeline
Or nest your timeline into another timeline so it will be treated as a clip which you can apply clip grades to.

May 30, 2016 at 7:43 am in reply to: Eye popping color in Resolve-fades after compression?Look at these settings in Color Management in the project settings:
Resolve can manage that for you if you are in a hurry or working local TV news, which means you’re always in a hurry. Otherwise, just as Joseph pointed out, make sure your levels are within 64-940 since everything above or below is getting clipped.

Yes, it does. But since Resolve will have to transcode it anyway – its not linking to a clip in your media pool, I’d use dpx or tiff or maybe quicktime uncompressed for Fusion connect. It does, however, suppport versioning for Fusion composites, which is much appreciated.

Yes. Select a clip in your timeline ans select the clip you want it linked to (or conformed to in Resolve lingo) in your media folder, right clip on either of those and select force conform.

If you are using fusion connect, you pretty much can choose which format you’ll send to fusion, from dpx or tiff sequences to a Quicktime file with any supported codec. If you’re into highest quality but longer render times and much more hard drive space, go for dpx sequence.

Skimming the log file I did see a couple of files Resolve cannot open, most of them in the subtitles folder. And one or more audio files, in a mov container, which do cause a couple of problems as well. A file named “edit 24 FIN fuer sound.mov” seems to be problematic as well.
Might be a good idea to just rename the subtitles folder, so those files are offlined (is that even a word?) and try opening the project again to see if that helps. Also, try a filesystem check for the volume “RAID Unai” as well, Resolve complains about waiting too long for an answer to a file request – might be a problem.
Couple of things you might want to try: export your project as a Resolve project file and import it into a new project. Or open the drp-file on another machine…
I assume you have the Nvidia Web driver, so that should be OK, maybe check for any CUDA updates as well. Or try disable CUDA completely and see what happens. Switch from optical flow to frame blending for the speed changes, maybe there is a glitch somewhere.Maybe deleting the the render cache as well while you’re at it. I recently got some interesting color effects when using DNxHR for cache frames, switching to ProRes solved that neatly.
That’s it, I’m fresh out of ideas until I fire up Resolve myself 🙂
Good luck und viel Spaß..
