  • Great. That is where I would have made the gradient as well. You have more control over it and it is easier to adjust until you get the look you need.

  • You may want to try a distortion map. Make a triangle with white at the tip and gradient to black at the base. Place that at the position of the boat and use that to drive the distortion of the horizontal lines. That should get you started. Then you can adjust the map as needed or even animated it with some noise so it isn’t static.

Replicating the text appearance should be the easiest part. You need to find the proper font, then create the text in Photoshop with the proper gradients so it has the proper coloring and then the highlights of the spotlighting on it. Take a screen shot of the text at it’s largest size. Take that into Photoshop and use it as a template for creating your new text.

You could use Newton or Ease and whizz or do it by hand. Most likely a combination of hand and one of the others. Like you said it isn’t that tricky. The string would be the hardest part.

It is not that difficult of a shot. You do have to replicate any movement and camera focus with your new text. First step is to remove the old text with rotoscoping, and cloning. Then create your new text and drop it in. You’ll need to roto the will down frame to overlay the new text and then recreate focus pulls on the text.

You could also use the footage as a luma matte for itself. Place it on a layer above itself. Set the layer below it to use it as a luma matte. Then use effects to make the top layer black and white, invert it and then use level controls to adjust it as needed.
