you don’t have to be mean – sorry, the camera was not in front of me – we use both tape and sd cameras. I appreciate the tutorial and will dissect it but I still don’t understand the “why”- Why would everything work fine and not have a problem since we started using the new cameras in November and then all of a sudden, we get the red exclamation point. Is it the cards or final cut settings or both? I have 90 students and 26 computers and they are dumping footage on external hard drives, chopping it up and exporting it. We have very little footage we actually need to keep for posterity.
I am a “teacher” but I was originally a news producer – I have very little knowledge of the technical aspect of video production and am very honest with my kids. I will do everything I can to find out information for them and I do the best I can with very little money and resources. I come to this forum to learn and pass it on to my kids in hopes it sparks something that will propel them to the next level where they will be surrounded with people like you who are obviously a lot more knowledgeable. If that makes me “dangerous”- I apologize, but my heart is in the right place.

ok- I think I have finally finished reading every forum, log, blog etc. and I have to say- I think I am in “virtual love” with Shane Ross.
I am a poor excuse for a Television Production teacher at a tiny little high school in South Carolina. So far, I have gotten by on wit and charm- but we recently upgraded to FCP7 and I’m thinking my days are numbered. I have Panasonic DVX’s that run on the minidv tapes (we will soon go tapeless-not topless- tapeless) and I have 83 sweet, well-meaning students marching through my classroom every day.
We are not real big on time codes and it’s wreaking havoc on the import process. Also, the firewire uploads are bombing out for no reason. I’d like to say I can even spout what processor, camera settings, playback settings HDblah blah blah to make myself sound smart but I’m throwing in the towel and admitting I’m a neophyte. I want my LiveType back- I stink at motion.. every time I think I have it down one of the kids touches something in a template and it takes me 2 hours to “undo” what they just did… do I need to just be put out to pasture?
