My guess would be that the on/off effect for the lights has been achieved with a mosaic tile effect (that matches the position of the lamps) over moving black and white vertical stripes that are about 5 lamps widths each. The result thereof can be used as a track matte for a copy of the lamps layer where the lamps are on. So you would have the lamps off in the lower layer, lamps on in the layer above and the moving stripes through static mosaic tiles as the track matte for the top layer. Do this horizontally in a separate comp and bring in the comp to size and rotate in the main comp. If you make the comp precisely 10 or 20 lamps wide, you can use motion tile to extend it as necessary.

Does it still do this if you change the font?

  • + when shooting, use short shutter speed, that way AE will have much better time tracking the track points.

  • If you’re in AE CC2019, the expression language has changed some and may require more accurate syntax, such as curly brackets around the IF ELSE outputs. (I don’t know the details, haven’t installed the latest myself.)

If in an earlier version, the simplest reason would be that the name of the layer doesn’t match exactly (they’re case sensitive), your best bet is to copy and paste the layer name.

[to Cassius] Ah, ok, obviously I’ve never used it that way… ????

In any case, based on the example video, you do want to use a different source layer than the text itself. I’d look for something which has a horizontally strethced blocky black and white animated fractal pattern on it. I’m pretty sure it will handle the issue.

You should be able find the 3D position to 2D screen position expression easily by searching in the expression forum.

Not sure I understand the second part…. Do you not want the object to scale smaller in the distance? Or are you talking about retaining the appearance so that it doesn’t stretch unnaturally along one axis as the objects gets close to the image edges?

  • You could make two square grids and slant them in the opposite directions by 30 degrees, align the corners to match and use lighten mode to blend them.

January 21, 2019 at 1:27 pm in reply to: Trying Import Word Doc Into new Book

The problem is one of two things. Either (1) the Word document is not one continuous flow or (2) you are not automatically generating new pages to account for the full length of the imported document.

To fix the second issue, try importing the text by not having anything selected on the page that has a master text frame on it (not with the text tool in the text box, just with the arrow tool with nothing selected) and holding shift when you click with the place text tool at the top left corner of the first page text frame. That method should create as many pages as is needed to hold the full text.

  • You can use a copy of the z-depth map as a track matte (set to luminosity) for the adjustment layer where you have your effecst applied. To control where the effect takes place you can use levels or curves adjustment on the track matte layer (the latter is more flexible). If you want to invert the area where the effect takes place select inverted luminosity for the track matte type.

Scale is 2 or 3 dimensional array, so you would need to construct that differently.

    If 3-dimensional, it would be [100/pick-whipped-scale[0],100/pick-whipped-scale[1], 100/pick-whipped-scale[2]]

If 2-dimensional, drop the third part.

Don’t know if it will actually do what you want, but it might.
