In order to replicate, I need to create a glass master, and then have it commercially reproduced, correct? Or am I missing something here?

Awesome post. I talked to the printer and we found a shortcut for a few things as well. In this particular image it was easier for me to take the background gray images (non-vector) and adjust the hue (with colorize checked) to 0%. That made them black. Then I just went to any vector that was black, clicked on the color picker, clicked “custom”, and viola! Photoshop found the Pantone Process Black immediately and I just clicked OK. Thanks for the explanation on why I could just send the magenta to the printer. That makes sense now.

I am sending it to the printer with just a note saying not to print the cyan and yellow, and telling them to print the magenta as a certain Pantone color.

Thanks a TON for the help, Kim!!! You rock!!!

    Sincerely,
    Justin Hawley.

    Awesome post. Thank you!

I notice my red actually shows up in both the Magenta and Yellow channels. Should I still just do the Magenta thing and tell them about it?
Also, how do I “redefine those items as 100% black instead.”??

Once again, thanks a TON and great feedback!!

May 25, 2006 at 9:56 pm in reply to: PPro 2.0 Multicam question

    Hello, all.

The drivers do not officially support multicam, in fact, Matrox says they don’t support it at all.

I recently discovered that I inadvertantly set up my last project as a normal NTSC instead of Matrox NTSC. So I just created a new, regular project, and it worked again. (Without tv monitor output, of course). No benefit from my Matrox card, but thankfully I can at least edit it on my computer monitors.

New RT X100 drivers for PPro 2.0 come out June 2nd. Hopefully they will solve the problem.

    Halleluiah.

Ridiculous!!! If it wasn’t for the multicam usage I would find little to nothing of value in 2.0. I mean, REMOVING functionality in an upgrade?!!!!! Needless to say, I put a bug ticket in. Hopefully enough people will complain.

Thanks for the info. Added a menu and it worked fine.

I don’t know if I’m understanding the entire problem correctly, but if it is just a matter of an overlayed black box causing the problem, are you applying the box to a final sequence, or as an additional layer on top of your edited footage?

Is it possible to render out the footage with fx and then apply the box?

Neither of these things would solve any footage that is lost, I understand. This addresses only 1 of your stated issues.

Thoughts for whatever they are worth.

Hi Aanarav. I did that, wouldn’t import. I have learned the hard way to make multiple backups as I edit. Bummer that the multi-camera action isn’t supported by Matrox. It works, but like I said, back up multiple copies!

    Thanks, all!

I did have auto save enabled, I believe. For some reason it didn’t work right, however. I’ve even got it set to save every 5 minutes or so.

I ended up starting over, but I would really enjoy hearing other people’s experiences with multicam and the quirks involved.

For example, this crash has taught me to “hand save” with backup projects as well.

Also, I have learned that Matrox does not support video output during multicam editing. Bummer. I was hoping to see the edited footage on my monitor in real time.

    Peace,
    Justin.

lol! Yes, you have captured my desire and the reality perfectly. Thanks again for the posts, everyone! As for my decision, I am sticking with a fast single-processer/Matrox RT X100 card with a Pentium D. That is, unless NAB shows me something incredible and reasonably priced that changes my mind. My new system will be based off a Powerboxx model located on this site: https://www.powerboxx.net/customizer/customizer.aspx?systemid=7 The only major chages I’m making are hard drives and dropping the video card.

Let me know if you have any more comments on this system.

    Thanks again, all.

Ok, excellent posts by all. Let me narrow the field a bit.

I have been researching HDV content a bit lately, and from what I’ve read I am not sure it is worth even considering building an upgradable system around at this point in time. The massive size of processing combined with what I have read about HDV artifacts, editing problems, and especially the lack of a consistent delivery medium make me believe that it really is too early to spend thousands of dollars on a system that most people will never enjoy the fruit of anyway. Especially since right now 100% of my projects are SD.

So the real question becomes: While working in SD is it better, the same, or worse to have either my current ASUS P5AD2-E Premium board with a Matrox RT X100 compared to no card and a Dual Xeon or whatever the current fastest configuration is? I use mostly speed effects, a lot of color correction, and yes, I do use large size images as well.

Excellent posts, gentlemen! Thank you for your input! When is NAB, anyway?
