Thanks for response Shane. No go after giving reel numbers though. Still no shrinking no matter what setting I give it. Weird. I’m doing exactly what you did in your tutorial. Maybe FCP is goofed. Never had a problem before though.

I am having this same problem in 7. Trying to recompress ProRes422 into ProRes422 Proxy just like in Shane’s video, but my modified bar does not shrink, nor do my files after the process. What the heck?

Does it have Avid DNxHD as an option? You would have to download the codec drivers/plug-in for Final Cut to open it, but it is a good editing codec like ProRes.

Thanks, Shane. I didn’t know H.264 wasn’t an editable codec, but I knew it was very processor intensive.

It might be because of the multiple layers.
I know H.264 takes a toll on rendering speed. Great codec, just takes a lot to make it work. Have you used this setting before without issues?

Thanks, Rafael. That’s informative about the 10-bit uncompressed. Nowhere near that. Would shoot for a SATA III if I could via PCIe for the Mac.
Trying to make a point with iMovie. Things are changing quick.
Very interested in why not to export or render to media drives though. I haven’t heard that before.

Not sure why, but I trust your advice on sticking with SATA. Probably won’t see a thunderbolt card for quite a while. Caldigit (my fav) has a SATA III card out with USB 3.0 as well.
But why not just use the enclosure along internal drives? It’s SATA II, which Apple is still currently using, and that would solve the everything online problem. What’s the benefit of getting the 3TB drives?
