iMovie is an NLE right? How many iMovie “editors” do you know that use a RAID?
I have no render time. Simple edits. No multicam. No processor intensive codec. I don’t need a RAID. I simply don’t need fast “throughput” sir.

If this is unusual for your system, maybe your drive is getting full?
I think you mean GB opposed to MB. If you have 50MB left on your drive then this is clearly the culprit.
10 second vs. 30 second render times depend on so many different variables. Very easy for either one to take longer than the other.

That’s probably the route I’ll take. It’s not expensive I know, but just more money 🙁 It will serve me well in the future I’m sure.
If I am going to invest in an enclosure though, I might as well make the best buy I can. Looking into some USB 3.0 options. Thunderbolt out soon from Lacie maybe? Speed isn’t necessarily an issue for me now as I’ve stated not needing a RAID, but transfer speeds are a plus.

Correct. Two of the four bays are dedicated to media. The first is system, second is system back up. We have simply had a project go beyond needing only two hard drives.
I need to look more into the consolidating option.

I’ve never tried to consolidate before, but you’re right, I think move and copy are what I was thinking of, which are used for consolidating.

What other function are you referring to? I don’t see a consolidate option, so I wasn’t even correct in referencing it.
What I might be wrong about is thinking I can use this tool to save just media in the sequence (pieces of master) with handles to another drive. This could help me get all the media I need mounted at the same time. Yes/no?

They are 1TB internal Seagates full of ProRes files.
I see three potential options:
1) Work in sections and combine exported sequences.
2) Get an external enclosure.
3) Possibly “consolidate” the media only needed for the sequence.Justin Ford

Rafael, I’ve never used consolidate, but I understand the idea. I didn’t think of that. I could possibly consolidate the media from offline drives onto an online drive if it didn’t take up too much space. I could even put handles on it.

Yes, Dave, I need more connections for the storage I already have (don’t need any more). I have more hard drives than I do connections. Thus the original problem of exporting the entire project. I don’t want a RAID.
I have discovered that these enclosures support something called JBOD.
Problem solved.
I still might just do it in sections to save the money.

Both. I don’t really mean online in the sense of online/offline production. We work with our native full quality footage. I need it all to be “online” aka mounted in order to export the whole thing.
I just need more drive connections I guess, but I don’t want to have to set up a RAID. Will one of the enclosures like the one that Shane linked to simply act as a drive multiplier instead of a RAID?

I don’t really want to buy a RAID. I don’t need the speed and don’t have it in the budget. There has to be another way to do this. What about “Planet Earth”? They probably have DAYS worth of footage.
I guess I could just export what I can of the sequence and then sync that file with other exported sections of the sequence. That must be what you mean Jeremy.
