Gosh I’d forgotten about the Paltex, amazing system for off-lining, you could even track a list from a second generation off-line, and you didn’t have to write down the edl from the BITC.

For sound you can leave it where it is, just drag the level down to zero.
-
Are you using fade to colour rather than dip to colour?
-
Hi Greg.
Use ‘dip to colour’ change duration to 6frames, change colour to white. -
Hi Greg.
You’ll find that in Avid there are often several ways of doing the same thing.
1) VO can be done wild with the capture tool, or to picture with the audio punch-in tool.
2)Unlike FCP, the work is done in the edit window and the timeline, so use resize (in the image section of effects) or 3D Warp from the Blend section.
3) Audio waveforms are under the quick (hamburger) menu at the bottom left of the timeline, – Audio Data – sample plot. -

July 12, 2011 at 10:22 pm in reply to: Any Recommendations on How to Make a Marketing VideoIt’s not clear what expertise the OP has, she may be looking to do this herself, or she may be finding out ways of contacting and hiring a large production company to produce a quality product, so it may be a total waste of time to go through, on The Cow, detail by detail all the steps neccessary to answer the question fully.
So Tom’s reccomendation may actually the most appropriate one.
Maybe Andrea will come back and respond to all the suggestions and expand on her needs.(From my brief glance at it, I think she should go through Mike Smith’s guide very thoroughly.)
P.S. I would have said that as the product being sold is High End, the marketing video should also be High End.

I think it would be very helpful to take a structured 3-5 day course.
You know how to edit, you just need pointing at the right way to pick up the tool. There are many differences and many similarities between FCP and Avid, and just doing the tutorials can be confusing unless you’ve started in the right place. The tutorials will all help later, when you’ve got the basics.
There are also several books and tutorials specifically about moving from one tool to the other.
But, as has been said by others, it’s only a tool, it’s not difficult learning other ways of telling the story, and you’re now about to learn the best one. (In my humble opinion) -

I agree, I would recommend a structured course rather than just winging it.
Try Skillset, for subsidised courses.
I don’t know if Soho Editors is still going, but I think they had a good course.
Try one of the other Avid discussion groups –
https://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/Avid-L2/
through that, try get in touch with Roger Shufflebottom, I think he used to train individuals, but he had contacts in many places, he may be able to help.In the mean time, go through the tutorials in the Avid website:
https://community.avid.com/forums/p/67003/375237.aspx#375237You’re into a wonderfull world with Avid, Good Luck.
