This is my main dislike of a fantastic new build. My workaround for new effects has been to ‘Show Keyframe Graphs’, hit Home, right-click in the gray area at the top and choose ‘Add Keyframe’. Then hit End, and do the same. This will add KF’s to all parameters.

Want to get frustrated? Open an old project with a simple 3D effect and some parameters don’t even have control – you see a KF, but it doesn’t affect that parameter.

Oh well, Old Dog, New Tricks.

If you are cutting in FCP, you do not want to edit with the original codec that the 7D records. Your computer will have an easier time with ProRes files.

Convert the Canon H.264 files to ProRes 422. You can do this with Compressor or there may be other programs that will do the same. I have not tried this, but you can look at…

You are right in your thinking that you should not upgrade in the middle of a project. Sometimes effects do not carry forward or links are broken. However, I have worked at several facilities that have upgraded systems over the years and have had very little issue opening old projects.

I am currently working on a project that was started on MC 4.0.x Vista, was considered complete but revisions were needed. So we opened the project on the same computer, but now that computer is Windows 7 with MC5. I haven’t had any issues.

My feelings are…backup everything, make copies where necessary and upgrade to your system of choice.

Sorry I didn’t reply earlier with details. Canon’s response sounds reasonable – along with the fact that you are getting auto-gain without asking for it in the HF S10. We tried not to shoot anything higher than ISO 800 and had good results. I know a couple shots used a higher setting, but I can’t remember details exactly.

It now makes sense to me that you are having a difficult time getting similar results based on the fact that you had to stop down to f/5.6 on the 5D in order to achieve the depth of field you are looking for. That explains everything.

If you have time, it wouldn’t hurt to do some ISO tests for yourself. Make sure to include some black areas, since that is where most noise will appear. Then take the clips into your editor and do a split screen between high and low ISO. This is one (very unscientific) way to determine what you are comfortable with.

Yes. And you don’t want to use auto-iso.

We have shot with the 5DmII in office environment, using 1 Diva light (4 tubes) and had great results with similar lenses that you mentioned.

How are you viewing the images? Is this on the camera LCD, external monitor, clips viewed on a computer?

I have found that the LCD may need adjustment on the 5DMII camera.

We just shot a month with the 70-200/f2.8L IS. We rented from borrowlenses.com – a great deal and good gear. (I don’t mind giving them a plug.) If you are considering shelling out $1500, it wouldn’t hurt to rent and test it out.

We never used IS as everything was on tripod – I know others here have said to use it. We also never shot handheld with this lens. We felt there was way too much glass up front to control the camera very well.

We just spent two weeks shooting with the Transcend 133x with no issues whatsoever. We have also used SanDisk Extreme in a four week shoot with no problems.

After exporting subclips from FCP, why not just import the clips into Avid? And when MC 5.0 comes out, you can use AMA to link to those QT files.
