I suppose I should update this post. This is the second time I have used FCP, had a disastorous quirky problem, FCP crashed, then everything worked just fine. So the worst is over and I have no urgent issues. Since this post is here however, I do have a couple of questions.
First, it appears that I am working in non-drop time. Is that correct for DV 24p? Does it matter if I am in Source Time or Clip Time? Also. since I get these quirky problems running FCP, I would just like an opinion as to whether I have enought Ram. I am running a 2.5 GHz G5 with 2 Gigabyte memory (and an ATI 9800 graphics card). I don’t know if I have less than optimal memory or if the program just tends to crash.

Just to let you know yes, I had copied all files onto my desktop and ejected the DVD. As I mentioned in the previous thread, FCP performance has mysteriously emerged. Thanks for your time and your interest in trying to help.

I bought the last of the old G5s (pre-Tiger) and have since upgraded to the new OS and then installed Final Cut Studio. Strangely enough however, last night I closed FCP but didn’t even shut down my system and today, everything seems to work smoothly. I don’t understand at all but thanks for trying to help. By way, once I start real work on short films, I plan to purchase an external media drive. I’m looking at the G-tech 250GB firewire drive. Will a non-RAID firewire drive provide good performance for FCP and DVD Studio? I don’t want a sluggish system like yesterday to become an ongoing problem.

Hi Dave,
I have the same problem on AE Pro 6.5. I have wasted so much time searching the documentation and web sites but even your advice hasn’t helped. It is just gone on every comp I open, even if I change color preferences. This little problem is just driving me crazy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
