I am a newbie to FCP (from Avid). anamorphic DV capture, and 24p. I think I got the capture settings right, it looks just fine in the Viewer. I’m not sure what is playing back from the timeline however. It is like flashing images where a small segment of the clip is being used and it is looping and flashing with a set of random intercut images. It’s hard to explain. I just don’t understand why the timeline playback is different from the viewer. Although I have been playing with the settings trying to match them to the viewer, perhaps I made things worse. Originally, the set-up was clip time, non-drop frame, where black frames were intercut.

Most immediatly, I need to know if I am capturing correctly because I am trying to keep up with production and the tapes are rolling in.

Your help wil be ever so greatly appreciated.

I suppose I should update this post. This is the second time I have used FCP, had a disastorous quirky problem, FCP crashed, then everything worked just fine. So the worst is over and I have no urgent issues. Since this post is here however, I do have a couple of questions.

First, it appears that I am working in non-drop time. Is that correct for DV 24p? Does it matter if I am in Source Time or Clip Time? Also. since I get these quirky problems running FCP, I would just like an opinion as to whether I have enought Ram. I am running a 2.5 GHz G5 with 2 Gigabyte memory (and an ATI 9800 graphics card). I don’t know if I have less than optimal memory or if the program just tends to crash.

Sorry for the false alarm and much thanks.
