Quantel eQ, is a type of high end online machine, used often for HD (I believe).

I don’t have to protect for 4:3 on this show, though I know that is normally the case on 16:9 deliveries. I just need to get it in 16:9 title safe. According to FCP I’m in, according to the EQ I’m out. I generated a photoshop file with 16:9 guides and they lined up bang on with FCP guides. So, are FCP and Photoshop both out to lunch on this, or is the EQ being overly vigilant?

My titles do not look like they are on the verge of going offscreen… they look fine. I’m watching them on a very ordinary Sony PVM-20MRU with a 16:9 button. When I was in QC session they had a series of guides that showed up on screen showing there title safe, where I found my titles were often venturing outside their guides. Again it looked fine on there monitor, but OUTSIDE safe. From what I understand title safe, is mostly a conservative estimate relevant to ancient televisions. Everything I’ve been monitoring this show on, has been made this century. I’m just trying to be diligent in delivering a master here that will meet everyone’s standards and expectations. It was somewhat alarming to have FCP’s title safe not match to the title safe in the EQ system.

Yes, I was monitoring on a 16:9 monitor and the titles looked fine. But I think title safe, usually ers on the side of safety, so this didn’t necessarily mean that I was not outside “safe”.

Well I solved this one on my own. The answer turned out to be fairly obvious. EDL export appears not to work if you have freeze frames or coloured frames generated in the “matte” option in the viewer. Once I purged these things from the timeline, the EDL exported no problem.

Thanks John.
Brighlight is digging around too see if they have an extra one kicking around. But If this fails to work out, I just might take you up on your offer.

Hi,
I haven’t received this fix yet… So I’ve continued to research work arounds. According to someone else I’ve talked to, he had the same problem and solved it by switching his device control to a “keyspan”.

January 15, 2006 at 11:15 pm in reply to: Decklink extreme – distorting audio on XLR outputThanks for your help. Yes, I think you are right about the XLR inputs. One of the mixer I was trying was a behringer… can’t remember what the other one was. However, when I went through the quarter inch inputs, I still was only receiving 1 channel of audio, so this doesn’t expalin why this is happening, does it?

I’ll definitely try that next time.
