I’m more distrustful of mixed format conforms than I am of color trace. For whatever that’s worth.

There is one logical reason, which is that fps effects the conform tc. That said the “handle mixed frame rates” option avoids this, by just rendering at the source fps. So that the conform less important.

What format are the source files in. Assuming resolve can read it you should be able to point it to the source media instead. Might have to tell it to ignore the file extension. Which is an option in the XML import window.

Resolve works quite well on the new MacBookPro retina with the larger GPU memory. It’s performance is close to what you’d get with a single q4000 system. Some pc notebooks use the 680M instead of the 650M and may get even better performance. But I dont have first hand experience with those.

Sounds like you had the incorrect project setting when you conformed. Unfortunately you can’t fix it now. What you need to do is create a new project. Before bringing in any media, check your project settings. Then reconform your cut and use the colortrace function to copy over your grades.

Q4000 is weak card. Also HDD speed may be issue. Are you reading/writing from same volume?

Check BMD config guide for gfx card recommendations,

I try to avoid doing scaling as much as possible in FCP, as it has a n awful scaler. So whenever I can I do my scaling in resolve or send out to a compositing app. When dealing with pip it’s always easy enough to burn in the scaling and then use power windows to do separate grades. Also can use the resolve ptzr controls, plus an alpha out to do the final composite in resolve.

Hue vs lum would allow you to do that. NR plus a qualifier works well for skins too.
