I agree with you that people should be warned. Hopefully this gets fixed very soon. The LTC trick can be done by feeding the TCout froma professional camera back into itself as an audio signal. There by embedding the LTC in the HD-SDI signal it’s feeding out.

One work around people are using is to embedded LTC as audio. And record that. Then use your preferred edit software to read the LTC from the embedded audio. It’s a very rough work around but makes it possible. Unfortunately when you record DNxHD you only get two channels of audio. In QT its 16, therefore more workable.

Actually with the HDCAm sr viewer software you add an SR qt codec. and the viewer can rewrap sr… so now this works for FCP as well.

You have to set the video format in the system preferences panel to match your sequence… Then restart fcpx. You’ll need to change the setting in system preferences and restart fcpx everytime you want to change format. It certainly is beta software.

As of today still only Vegas and avid with AMA plug. But I think you can expect more support at least for hdcam sr codec as the f65 and sr r1 recorders will be supporting this as a native codec. As far as archiving hdcam (not sr) tapes, I think the way to go is capturing to prores or DNxHD over hdsdi.

Actually with the calibrated software you’d only need one seat as you can use Premiere or something else to rewrap the MXF into QT and then just use the free DNxHD qt codec in your NLE of choice. I’d love to have QT wrapped DNxHD, but if BMD is prioritizing… usable TC is issue #1, everything else is just an inconvenience. no timecode… makes it a doorstop.

You’re missing the single biggest glare in my opinion. The hyperdeck does not record timecode. Period. From any source. It’s advertised on the product package as having full frame accurate timecode support. But in fact does nothing of the sort. The thing has been shipping since August. They’ve had a full hardware revision of the shuttle, and multiple firmware updates. They’ve added codecs. But they still haven’t fixed timecode.

We’ve got two hyperdeck studios and one hyperdeck shuttle sitting around collecting dust because we can’t use them for anything without TC.

    Very frustrating.

Just to add. If you need to have your bg in order to composite the title position, do you stereo color on the bg in resolve, fix all of your alignment and convergence for the bg, then render that out and bring it into your compositor where you can adjust convergance in the fg and either render out a final comp, or a new matte/fill with proper convergance to composite in davinci,

I think you need to use a compositor to properly set the convergance before heading into davinci. Convergance in Resolve seems to function globaly as you’ve discovered. This could definitely de done in something as easy as after effects or even better in nuke.

    Good luck.

The i1d3 does indeed work with oled. I’ve calibrated 3 oled PVMs this way. Is CRT as the profile type as this will get closest to the performance profile of oled. That is until the calibration companies, realize they need to be ready for oleds.
