February 19, 2012 at 12:54 am in reply to: New HyperDeck 2.5 Beta software available now.I get a massive gamma shift with DNxHD qts on fcp vs avid. And it seems to jump in fcp depending on playback. I suspect this is standard behavior for DNxHD, but is anyone else seeing this? It looks great in Avid though and is a huge improvement over Xdcam from f3. Will probably use qt wrapper even for avid workflow, as qt on hyperdeck supports more audio (16 vs 4 channels.)

I’m not. Don’t like using DNxHD in FCP. It’s handy for Premiere and also to trancode to ProRes for FCP. And of course works great in Avid, easy link to ama and consolidate.
EDIT: Spoke too soon on the premiere. It’s not accepting the HyperDeck QT DNxHD files.

Kristian,
This is great! Finally TC, and DNxHD in a QT wrapper is incredibly handy. We wish the MXF supported more audio channels, but it seems that QT DNxHD supports 16 which is awesome. Loving that.
Rec run trigger works fine, after manually initiating a record the first time. However the SDI rec trigger on the Sony F3 does not seem to function.
These are HUGE improvements, we’ll be using our devices a lot more now.
One lingering issue is that when we record 24PsF material, and play it back the signal switches to 24P instead of PsF, for many monitors this is fine, but on CRTs it is unusable. Would love to have a preference setting for this as on the decklink (i.e. use PsF instead of P).
Thanks so much,

I didn’t say it would work well.

Create a disc image. Put it on the San. Mount the image. Use the disk image as avid drive.

Is your Middle mouse button set to button 3 in system preferences? Is some other action dashboard or expose set to use the middle mouse as a trigger?l

Meant that the other way. AV requires lion snow leopard doesn’t support it.
Here is someone else experiencing the same thing:

February 14, 2012 at 4:57 pm in reply to: Can’t decide one what Monitors to purchase for my Edit SuiteWhile it’s true the viewing angle is very narrow, that’s also the case with any LCD monitor. Given it’s small size and narrow viewing angle it’s not suitable as a client monitor. I use it as a primary grade monitor. My angle of view is always within 15 degrees or so. I never notice a shift because my viewing position is very consistent.
I’m not seeing any black clipping at all. In fact quite the opposite, I see a ton of details in the black that gets lost on anything else. Particularly in the color saturation. This is very helpful for grading with masks in blacks. I am also looking at it in a dark environment, which helps in making out shadow detail.
There is also a SMPTE-C mode which raises the black level to that of a CRT, if you’re looking for CRT level performance, that will give you it.
As with all display technologies there is some level of subjectivity. In my opinion in terms of color fidelity, contrast and black level performance, shadow detail and dynamic range the oleds are among the best grading monitors. That said, mine is strictly for operator use, I have a Panny plasma for clients.
