I suspect the 580 with 50% less power consumption than the 590 should be fine. Will test soon enough.

480 runs fine on internal power with gt120 drawing power off bus. 590 runs fine until it kicks on the second GPU chip. I hope the 580 is able to run off internal power.

OS must be lion and the drivers only work on Mac pro 3,1 and up.

Use a bunch of gopro camera arranged in a row, then cut between them on the same frame. It’s the same as the bullet time effect from the matrix.

UPDATE: Further testing suggests that the power supply may be the issue causing a crash when noise reduction is enabled. It seems the 590 power manages so that the second GPU is in a low power state until it has to kick in, at which point the MacPro power supply fails. Will try a GTX 580 which has much lower power requirement. Will report back.

I’ve been waiting for almost a month for BMD to update Resolve with F65 support. Still no go. In the mean time best work around is to use F65 Viewer to export clean DPX and then grade with DPX. Seems to be a lossless workflow but requires much larger file sizes.

The gamma shift is a product of the dnxhd codec. It only seems to work correctly in avid and with products that use their own non-qt decoder (resolve).

What if you manually add deinterlacing in media encoder? Does that fix?

Sounds like a general interlaced issue. The MC GUI viewer is only showing one field any way. The only part that sounds funky to me is that you can’t deinterlace through Media Encoder… but did you actually add a deinterlace filter in media encoder?

Gregg, that seems to be the culprit. Removing the audio tracks through qt allows the DNxHD files to come on to premiere CS5. Now if I could just figure out a way to get the QT engine to recognize the data as already scaled to that it doesn’t scale it down to 7.5-90 thereby introducing a gamma shift. Then it might be useful in a broader way.

Are there best practices to using DNxHD i’m unfamiliar with?

After Effects color management interpretation allow me to get in the ballpark by specifying it as scaled 709, which while not dead on starts to approach the color. However premiere doesn’t seem to support color management.

I disagree. And you have a real world example of this. If you’ve ever seen a toddler take to an iPad. They pick it up immediately and instinctively. Mouse and keyboard take a lot more brain power then grabbing and pointing,
