Yes other than the error box it does seem to work. It shows up as two seperate gpus and functions as such. Performance for single gpu is on par with 570. But multitask functions like nr kick on the second gpu and perform better. I would recommend the 580 as you get better real world performance. Or better yet wait for 680.

The card is supported. Resolve shows an error box, and the Mac pro power supply can’t handle the 590.

Yep. That is why. Also because the x,y,z coordinates are in absolute value not relative. So moving 10increments over in the x space does not translate to the 10pixel move in 2d space, due to the distance in z.
Can you convert your null to 3d?
What exactly are you trying to do?

March 14, 2012 at 2:43 am in reply to: How can I parent the position of a 3D light to the position of a 2D null?I believe the layer space transform only goes 3d to 2d. Like I said 3d adds an extra variable. So a single point in 2d space can actually be many different points in 3d space.

Can you possibly point me in the direction to one of these 570 or 580 cards on ebay or whatever online retailer has it – I would also just buy from a store here in NYC if possible?! Just to verify – this is the most powerful card i can get at this time for non-cubix setup.
I’m in NYC too. Unfortunatly b&h doesn’t carry the 3gb 580 in stock. Check with tekserv. Though I’m doubtful. Best bet is newegg.
I am also still curious as to whether the quadro 4000 will in fact be enough to render 5k shots – i would hate to waste studio friend time..one thing to point out is they are on a macPro 3,1 with much less CPU than my 12-core – does this matter in terms of rendering 5K or just playback? As long as it will render out that is all that matters.
Can’t speak for the 4000, I know it has 2gb of ram but not sure if that is enough. Performance is not as good as 570/580. Though if you could hold out a week or two the 600 series will be released.
If your source is r3d and you’re not using red rocket then CPU will make a difference. Though I’m not sure if red decode is multithreaded. I can’t say for sure as I haven’t tested decode speed difference.

Ok. Not the same as 470 then. Confused power connectors with 480. My 480 came with 6pin to 8pin adapter and works fine with stock Mac pro power supply.
-
The standard (I.e. non classified) 580 works fine in Mac Pro with the 120 as GUI card. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks without issue. But the 570 does require less power.

You will have to upgrade to lion to use a non flashed card. As the new nvidia drivers require lion. I’d recommend the 580 with 3gb ram. I believe the power should be the same as 470 one 6pin & 1 8pin.

It works but not well. Use Resolve Lite to test if in doubt. Works about million times better on an approved NVidia card.

March 13, 2012 at 10:48 pm in reply to: Displaying Reel info inside clip icons on Color page?I’ve got another tip for you. Use multiple tracks to denote cameras. I.E. Camera 1 on track 1, etc., etc.
I use my conform in FCP or Avid to arrange the multi track layout.
