Resolve and AMD
Posted by Peter Brewer on March 13, 2012 at 9:57 pmCan anyone tell me if Resolve works with AMD video cards on a Mac Pro or do you need to have Nvidia?

March 13, 2012 at 10:49 pmIt works but not well. Use Resolve Lite to test if in doubt. Works about million times better on an approved NVidia card.

March 14, 2012 at 8:10 amIt works…. but it is not speed demon. Depends what you are doing. I have a system that I some times do simple stuff on. I can get about 12-18 frames with uncompressed HD source to prores render on an 8-core westmere with a 5770. The other system I have with proper nvidia HW with fast storage can do the same thing significantly faster then real time. But it is very stable with the AMD card. You will not get the NR on the AMD.. you’ll need nvidia for that.

March 14, 2012 at 9:36 amThanks for the info guys. Looks like Nvidia is the way to go. I have been holding off getting a new card because I’m waiting for the new Mac Pro rumoured to be around the corner. There’s talk that they may be moving back to Nvidia but was curious that if they were released with AMD, would they work.
