  • Hi Gary!

[gary adcock] “No there is no 24.0sf set up since even in Hollywood the number of people that work at 24.0 in a video format barely exist. ( no realtime conversion to NTSC for monitoring) and people working from file based workflows have chosen to stay as “true” 24 rather than using 23.98sf”

This is very insightful and helps me to understand the context of the existing presets. Thank you!

I was confused because there is a preset for Playback that is clearly labeled 24psf, but there were no presets for Sequence or for Capture and I assumed there had to be an important reason for that.

Indeed, I created my own preset and that was it… but, I just wanted to be completely sure I was not making any blunders.

[gary adcock] “* FYI- I intimately understand the difference between between P and sF as a transport stream* search on the cow archives will see comments on this confusion from me for over 3 years.”

I understand this and want to clarify that there was no offense intended in my emphasis of the words ‘segmented frame’: I always assume that the responsibility of avoiding any misunderstandings lies with the person initiating the conversation (i.e. me)… I just assumed that I was not communicating clearly and tried to solve that, I never intended to offend you. I’m really sorry!

    Again, thank you very much.

  • Hi Gary!

    Thanks for your swift answer.

After reading again my own post I realize that I did not make myself completely clear…

That is not my problem: I’ve had those already enabled and I can see all of the 24p esay setups and options.

The problem we’ve got is that in FCP there are no settings for 24pSF, that is segmented frame.

That’s the signal that our Aaton Keylink outputs. If in FCP I select one of the 24p settings, there’s nothing in the capture window…

If I launch the AJA Control Panel the information is correct and the IoHD is recognizing the signal correctly (it says 24psf), if I quit FCP and launch VTR Xchange there’s image in the capture window and the signal is correctly recognized as psf.

But FCP doesn’t recognize the signal.

    Hi Shane!

    Thank you very much.

Indeed, this is for an off-line cut.

I’ll check the manual and do it so.

    Dear Michael,

    Accept my apologies.

Just a little desperate because of the deadlines and thought maybe I could get an alternative workaround (inherent to the ioHD)by crossposting to this forum.

Never was my intention to offend or bother anyone.

    Hi Shane!

    Thanks for your swift answer…

Could you explain with a little more detail how to do this in Compressor?

I’ve been trying to do it but I just can’t come up with the proper letterbox settings and I don’t know how to indicate it to keep the TimeCode in the new file…

April 9, 2009 at 7:58 pm in reply to: Can AJA io HD capture at 24psf?

    Hi!

Up to this day we had worked in an exact 24p workflow for all of our previous featre films involvements.

Usually we worked all the time with propietary equipment and software in HD with all the deliverables in HD and on-line editing in Avid.

And yes, we finish in film out.

This project is our first in many aspects:

    a) It’s our first long-form feature film with 35mm 3-perf (and 4-perf for VFX)
    b) It’s our first for making deliverables at SD (NTSC)
    c) It’s our first with an editor using FCP

So we are starting to ‘adapt’ to the rest of the world.

    Regards,

    Jj
