Thanks, Arnie. Ya, i know…i should just breakdown and buy Photoshop…but until then, thanks for this input, but i still couldn’t get it to work/change. I did an “Import as Project” and tried it both as a merged layer (which i figured wouldn’t work) as well as separate layers. Even tried just bringing in a single layer and trying all the alpha channel settings in the Media tab. I tried inverting the alpha, changing the colors on the pre-multiplied black, white and color settings. When i tried “GuessAlpha Type” and it would always jump back to “None/Ignore”. Could it be something in the way it was saved by my client’s graphic person? It did come as a 10 layer psd file, so at least the layers are there.

Are you using Motion 3? Though i think this same option was available in Motion 2 as well. Again, go to the file menu, choose either on “Import” or “Import as Project” (they both seem to give you this next option), select your file, click “Import” (or “Import as Project”), then you’ll get a drop down menu that asks whether to import merged layers (default) or “All Layers”. They should all show up, separated…but as i will be asking in my next thread, mine show up with black (and it appears to be non-transparent black) around the elements in each layer…

Good info. So, to be clear, am i on track here? For a system drive, the way to go would be to start with a CCC onto another drive. Then do regular incremental backups via CCC to keep the clone somewhat “current”. ALSO, do a Time Machine backup (to the same backup drive?) but this would mainly be for the regular incrementals that TM does on its own every hour, so there would be a VERY current incremental backup to go back to for any other reason. Then, when the terrorists strike and kill just my main system drive, use the CCC backup and it’s latest incremental, then also use the latest TM incremental to end up where i had started within 1 hour of the crashed system drive. (Now that i type all this out, it sounds like a no-brainer…just seeing if i’m catching all you’re saying and doing enough, while not being too redundant too redundant too redundant).

Then, for non-system drives (i.e., project files, etc.), just use TM since i wouldn’t need a bootable copy? For media drives, a RAID is probably best? When a project is all done, how many of you guys dump all the media (captured from tapes, discs, cards, etc.) to another drive for long-term archival?

So, after a new install/re-install of the system software, the recommendation is to CCC the system drive to a Backup Drive, then do Time Machine updates to another drive/partition for the incremental changes? That seems to make sense. Or, is CCC any good at incremental changes? If not, it sounds like you would end up with 2 complete backups of the system drive: the first CCC one, then a Time Machine one which also would have the incremental changes. Verify when you can.

It’s a no-go here…swapped the cards, neither Motion 2 nor Motion 3 would work with this card (X800 XT). Maybe it’s Leopard? I never had this problem before…or maybe some incremental upgrade in the past few days?

cheers…i now have the same problem, though never saw it until a few days ago. I had used Motion 2 quite a bit, then Motion 3 quite a bit when FCS2 came out. Never saw the Ozone failure before a few days ago. Since then, i have gone back to my original graphics card, which is really the only system change i have made, other than adding a few new hard drives. I’ll swap out cards again, putting in my X800 XT again which is pretty much on the verge of complete heat failure, which is why i had taken it out and gone back to my “trusty” (but slow and not-too-powerful) GeForce FX 5200

On “other formats”, mine has an “FLC” option, but no “Flash Video” or “FLV.”

Thanks, ya, that was the conclusion i came to after clicking around a bit more. So really since the biggest drives available are now either 1.5TB or 2TB, that is really all the info that can be “Time-Machined” since it all has to go to a single disk, right?

By the way, i’ve been staying away from any single drives over 1TB as i hear their performance has been a bit shakey. Anyone out there experience this or are you just buying the biggest available and getting great results?

Are you just rendering the timeline for playback, or rendering out a single QT file for outputting to tape, DVD, etc.? If you are just rendering so you can output, it will probably output better if you render it out to a single QT (self-contained) file.
