    >>played around with the ‘view options’ (right click) and selected view as icons and then back to view as list

THANKS! This worked on my FCP7.
It does seem to be a bug. In previous projects I was able to drag the clip from the timeline to the viewer and the clip would have a “reveal arrow” next to it. Clicking the arrow would show the markers.
The new project didn’t act the same, but your suggestion made it work!
    Merci!

  • Ahha!

If no effects have been added to the tracks in the timeline, then the additional tracks are linked before any effects like dissolves or cross-fades, everything shows in the viewer linked as expected with multiple audio tracks opened along with the video track.

    Ta-da.

I thought I had a solution, but it seems to be creating a different problem:
Dragging the clip with the “linked” additional audio tracks to the browser and then back to the timeline resolves the “not-linked in Viewer” issue, but when trying to move that clip on the time line the xx:xx:xx box appears and then the dreaded beach-ball ….

Anyone have any tips, ideas, or suggestions?

Anyone have any ideas on the problem here?
It has happened again, and the clips with the issue are crashing FCP!
    Thanks for ANY help!

Unfortunately I can’t say why or how to fix, but I am having the same problem.
Duplicated tracks due to low record levels. Linked back to originals. Selection works fine, and clip plays in timeline, but will not show any audio tracks in Viewer.
Other clips open in viewer with audio.
Removing the extra linked tracks puts everything back to normal.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks.

I have a similar issue, but it’s not just the audio clips.

I have an indexed media file, one video and 2 audio tracks, that will not move by dragging. When I try to drag I get a small yellow window that has xx:xx;xx in it and nothing happens.
If I go to the “+” key and enter a value, the clip will move.
If I drag up or down to a different track, the clip is deleted.
If I use the blade and make a cut, the clips will move using drag.

I tried a new sequence, and a new project with the media file copied to it and get the same results.

    The tracks are not locked.
    Any ideas?

Using Final Cut Pro 7.0.3 on MacPro running OS X 10.6.8
Thanks for any tips or clues!

December 10, 2011 at 2:11 am in reply to: HDV .mov files won’t play on FCP and QuickTime

Our broken HDV files were originally recorded using
Digital Recorder: Focus Enhancement DTE FireStore FS–4 Pro HD, Version 2.0.0.04092006 NTSC
Format: Quicktime, external timecode, in Syncro Slave mode
    Camera: Sony Z1U
Format: 1440 x 1080i, to internal HDV tape and via firewire to FS-4

Through a lengthy discussion with Apple, they directed me back to
    https://www.focusinfo.com/dynassets/documents/downloads/MACOSX_Supp_Anncmt_10.21.11.pdf
and suggested that I do e-mail the support@focusinfo.com.

    Focus quickly sent
    HDFileConverterUpdater_v1.2.dmg
and a document explaining the bug and the fix.

This worked perfectly! No downloading of pacifist, no searching for and deleting components and QT libraries, no downgrading needed.

After this security update my shop is experiencing the same problem. All machines that have run this security update 2011-006 fail to open .mov that were recorded from our FireStore. The only machine that still opens them in QT or FCP is a laptop running Lion but that has not run this security update.

Did these component files, System>Library>Quicktime>QuickTimeComponents.component, have the same or different dates between the two systems?
When I look back to my external backup of the boot drive, the dates in my “updated” system are the same as the old file, making me think they were not affected.

    Thanks,
    Joy
