Thanks Eric. Any suggestion on what should I convert them to in Compressor to make a DVD?

I did ask him if he had any original files or anything else and this is all he has. So yep, it’ll be GIGO, he knows it.

    Thanks again!

I tried log and transfer both on the original SD card and on a copy of the entire file structure, FCP won’t see the files at all. I downloaded AVCCAM and now the MTS files will import into FCP but playback in canvas or viewer is completely choppy and eventually crashes the program. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance.

Perfect, Mark! Thanks for the brainpower! Trevor, yours probably would work too but it’s over my head…

When I click “stream info” in Mpeg Streamclip it says the MP4 video track is 1280×720, ~29.642fps, 11.86 Mbps.

Thank you for your response Rafael. I converted again, this time in Compressor, with Frame Control on, audio settings at Linear PCM, Stereo, 48kHz, Best render quality, 16 bit sample size. The audio no longer needs rendering when I drop it into FCP, but it still loses sync significantly. I’m making another conversion now with frame control off…. in the meantime, any other ideas? Thanks again.

Thank you both for your replies.

I converted the files to Apple ProRes 422 in Compressor, then imported them into FCP, drop them on the timeline and say yes to change the sequence settings. The audio needs rendering and the file is silent whether rendered or not (it plays fine in QT). If I import a wav file and drop it onto the timeline, it won’t play either. (also plays fine in QT).

If I open an entirely new project and drop the wav onto the timeline first, it plays fine. I then drop the mov onto the timeline and it plays as well (audio and all), but says it needs rendering.

I assume this is an audio/video settings problem?

Here’s a link to the directory containing original AVI file, the converted ProRes 422, and the test file with the speed change. Thanks for looking, I do appreciate it.

I’m using FCP 7.0.3 and QT Player 7.6.6.

    I just tried a test:

    – Using Compressor, I converted my original 640×480 AVI file to Apple Pro Res 422

    – Started a new project in FCP, imported the Pro Res 422 mov file and put it in the sequence, said “yes” to changing the sequence settings to the clip settings

    – Changed the Easy Setup to uncompressed 8bit NTSC 48kHz (I tried Aja Kona LHi NTSC Apple ProRes 422 and the footage wouldn’t play in the canvas or viewer)

    – Checked the sequence settings – general was NTSC Apple ProRes 422, video processing is “Render all YUV material in high-precision-YUV”, render control both filters and frame blending are checked and quality is “best.”

    – Slowed the speed on the middle of the video to 95%

    – Exported with current settings

I still get the same darkening during the slowdown:

This is a 19MB file, only 5 seconds long, the darkening is obvious from 01:29 to 04:11.

    Thanks for your time…
