Really? In searching the forums it seems I’m not the only one who has experienced this, in fact it almost seems expected in some respects:

So far nobody has had a really concrete explanation or solution, which is why I thought I’d ask again.

My composite mode is indeed normal, my opacity is 100% throughout, and it is fully rendered. I am going to test today the idea of putting the original file into a brand new timeline/new project and changing the speed on a portion of it and seeing how it exports. Any other suggestions are most welcome!

I just set it to high precision and best quality and re-rendered with the exact same results – I also realized that the fade to black at the end actually flips to being darker at the beginning of the transition as well, so it isn’t just speed, it’s any effect??

I think I read somewhere here about using color correction – is that my only option?

    Thanks again!

I’m having this same problem. I’m working with Apple Pro Res 422 files though, not LT. In a 2 min 46 sec piece I’ve changed the speed on about 3 seconds of footage (a single, contiguous clip). In the export that 3 seconds is darker than the rest of the piece. During playback anywhere in the timeline however, I see it switch between dark and light every time I hit play or stop.

I’ve tried rendering with “frame blending for speed” both checked and unchecked with the same results. Any help would be appreciated!

Rafael, thank you for your response! I hadn’t had the opportunity to use MPGStreamclip yet, I’ll give that a shot and see how it goes.

And yes, using 1080 was a mistake on my part – the original files out of the Canon were 640×480 and the final product was only destined for YouTube, so I would assume there would be no reason to finish at anything larger than 640×480!

Richard, thanks for the suggestion. I was using this as an exercise to specifically learn my way around these kind of issues with FCP since that’s what I have daily access to at work, but I do also have occasional access to Premiere and learning it would be a good idea too – thanks!

When you create a new project and project folder, is there a way to have FCP automatically save the render files for that project in the same location?

If so, will the render manager still work later, assuming all external drives are connected?

Thanks very much for this Andrew. I guess I hadn’t thought about the fact that a DVD with an aspect ratio of 16:9 doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s HD…

As for turning my HD file into an SD file to make the DVD burning process more efficient, I haven’t researched it yet but I assume this means using Compressor to convert it to a file with the appropriate specs, then burning a DVD. This would still be a lengthy process, yes?

(I’m getting the idea that there’s not much of anything in the video production workflow that can be done quickly!)

    Thanks again for your help!

March 8, 2011 at 8:29 pm in reply to: Media Manager Not Trimming

I am having this problem as well. My original 3 hour file is 60GB in size and shows a reel name of “1” in the FCP browser. Just for the heck of it I changed its reel name, which also changed the reel name for all my subclips. The subclips total about 45 minutes of footage, which the media manager takes up 56.5GB of space. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
